Online Poll in Germany - Barack Obama in Berlin
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 02:24 PM by bushmeat
Barack Obama touring through Europe in Berlin and holds a hotly debated question. Is the attention warranted?

58.65% 1) The speech could signal a new and improved European-American relationship.

24.04% 2) Obamas visit is mainly a campaign event and is directed more to the American voters.

17.31% 3) The public attention is pure personality cult and should not be overstated.

4. Interesting
I don't see where the first two options are incompatible.
I thought the speech was fine -- straightforward and well-delivered (as usual) and very well done as a "getting to know you" appearance. I also think that emulating Kennedy's "Ich bin (ein) Berliner," or Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" (which has been torn down in any event) would've been inappropriate coming from a candidate, as opposed to a sitting President.
Obama didn't need a home run. He got a solid double, and that was plenty. Well done and bravo.
John
Especially considering that the best Senator Scrotum had in response was a visit to a German restaurant. How pathetic.
