The World is Watching.
Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of approximately 200,000. People around the world are watching him, and hoping that he will be elected. He is already recognized as a leader on the world stage.

John McCain's largest audience thus far was when he appeared on MSNBC's Hardball (the college tour). He spoke to an audience of 4,000.

It's a good time to be a democrat.

1. "He spoke to an audience of 4,000."
McCain could easily increase that number by posting in the DU Lounge during intermissions.

19. In the past 8 years,
many of the people around the world have wondered how the US could put a totally unqualified fool into the White House. In the days and weeks after 9/11, the world community expressed compassion for our country. And then it was repaid with the arrogance, bullying, and violence that has made this administration feared and hated by many good people. What is wrong with Americans, that they allow this to happen, was the question.

Today, they see not only a new type of leader, but they know that the Americans of good will are taking a stand.

What an excellent face for America Obama makes. He made me prouder to be an American today.

And the pushers of the right-wing dope are sputtering, bullies who are no longer feared.

...great? And its been so long. Just imagine how a four (or eight) year presidency will be. Sleeping at night and everything! :7

P.S. I don't know if I ever thanked you properly for that 'I believe' thread back in 2004. It was one of the things that was really comforting after that election. It was good to know I wasn't alone then. THANK YOU. :)

Thanks, YvonneCa.

20. It is apparent
that the corporate media is engaged in a coordinated response to the Obama campaign. They, too, are sputtering. Some of the journalists/reporters actually like Barack Obama, and find his style to be refreshing and exciting -- especially compared to the dynamic John McCain. But the powers-that-be are focused on injecting doubt and anxiety into the public's minds.

It ain't working.

12. Good Point...because the "Old World" didn't want US to Invade Iraq...and look at what we did...
It will take time....we are "there yet...here in the U.S."...much as we would wish. The "PTB" are still entrenched if one turns on one's TeeVee..or reads the dwindling propaganda papers that are what remains of our McCorporate Media. Without a media that's FREE and AVAILABLE to our average US Population...we here on the "internets" can only wish for what we see coming from the "old world" who has been through many wars and is tired...but we are still young and frisky...and those who run us...run the world.

It's a problem isn't it? The "disconnect" and the "connect."

They were all against Chimp and they watched our idiots make it close enough for him to steal. It really doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks. It has no bearing on this election. The Euros are not Americans.

22. Sure it matters.
Obviously, non-Americans do not vote in the elections. I do not think that any DUers were confused about that point. But the changes that need to be made, as Obama pointed out yesterday, are not limited to the US, nor are they limited to the first Tuesday in November.

24. Things are not equal.
That is a given.

Another given is that people -- and nowhere moreso than in the USA -- have been lied to. And those lies certainly do not equal the Truth. As Vince Bugliosi points out in his new book about prosecuting President Bush, the most unequal result of those lies is that the majority of Americans today live with the anxiety and depression that is rooted in fear. No single idea has been promoted as much by this administration as fear.

When people experience fear on a daily basis, and when anxiety and depression saturate their society, they become convinced that positive change is impossible. And they give up hope. They do not believe that there are options available, and when they see the possibility of positive change, they react by thinking and saying, "No."

Fear is the worst enemy that any human being can have. Yet the truth is that all people experience fear and anxiety, for our brain is thus programmed. So both the hero and the coward feel the same fear and anxiety when confronting life: the difference is the hero uses those emotions as the fuel for change, while the coward is defeated by them.

We all have the potential to be a hero or a coward. We all have the ability to change. And when we change, either way, everything around us changes, for better or for worse.

In recent years, most of the change we have witnessed has been negative; by no coincidence, it has happened under an administration that peddles fear and anxiety, and under a congress that is handcuffed by cowardice.

While it isn't "fair," things will either get better or become far, far worse. Things cannot remain the same, as that is not ever an option. The direction that the changes will take depends allmost entirely upon the decisions that people make, and that includes people around the globe. If the majority of people are reduced by fear and anxiety, and cling to "No" as if it's a lifeboat, then the changes will be negative.

But there is another option: "Yes!" Yes, we can institute positive changes. The odds may be against us, but we will not allow fear to stop us from trying our best. And, indeed, just as "Yes" and "No" are not equal, neither is our best equal to anything less.

When we put our minds together, we can achieve positive change. It will be difficult, but it remains the best option.

Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 02:45 PM by barack the house
The rest of the world finds it shocking how badly the US media treats Democrats when they do the right and good thing. Now on the world stage they do fantastic, but domestically that's up to "we the people". As Harmann always says governement will be cleaned up with a full force meovement behind it.
