Explain to me why the soldiers like Obama so much
Wow! Even the troops treated him like the rock star/prez-to-be. This race isn't going to be close.

What's up with that? Is it because he's so much closer to them in age? Because he talks with a grown-up's voice instead of that reedy 100-year-old whine? Because he's a head taller than McCain? Because he wants them out of Iraq in mid-2010? I know the media fed to the soldiers is ultra-right-wing. How are they able to fight through that and see what the rest of us see?

2. As far as the media they're fed, when I was in the service, we did what we were told.
We didn't *believe* what we were told...

4. Not everybody in the military is conservative
That's a farce that's been perpetuated way too long. And, the fact is that it wasn't until Clinton that the military started to close the wage gap with the civilian sector.

In general, the Dems would rather increase the technology os the military rather than use the personnel as IED fodder.

5. ** has over-exended the military, sent people back for mutliple tours, stiffed veterans on
benefits, and sent them to a war that never should have happened in the first place.

No question why at least some of them are looking forward to Obama as CIC.

6. The media may be right-wing but they know the reality - they live it every day.
They know better than to buy Fox's lies because they see it for themselves. And Obama's real - and that genuineness shines through the bullshit.

7. He Will Bring Them Home
I am sure they have heard about McCain's desire for a 100 year war. They don't want to be there for 100 years.

Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 04:45 PM by dmordue
someone supposedly tried to justify it by saying all they get is Fox news.

Much like the rest of the US is split... Also, there are a disproportionate number of african americans and latinos in the military.

22. I work with an ex AF Colonel.
He hates Obama.

He's of the "We must fight and win or everyone died in vain" vein.

14. Umm...because they're Americans who know what's up?
Don't believe the corpmedia RW spin and those like Lindsey Graham who, like Jim Webb says, try to put words in the mouths of the soldiers for their own politcal gain. There are many members of the US military forces who support Obama. They are getting tired of the shit.

20. A couple of years ago, I was talking to a
young officer (West Pointer who was getting ready for his second tour) and I asked if he was going to re-enlist when his commitment was up. He said that he had joined to serve his country, not to build an empire. Well, he is no longer in, but maybe some of those people support Obama because there is a pretty good chance that under President Obama ( sounds pretty good doesn't it) they will be able to really serve their country they way they intended rather than build an empire and serve the interests of warmongerers as Bushco intended.
