5. I didn't know Obama was black until I visited his senate campaign website in '04

I remember reading a lot of stories on DU in early '04 about how this progressive guy with a weird name who opposed the Iraq War won the Senate Primary in Illinois over better funded machine candidates who were more conservative. Didn't have a clue that he was black until I actually saw his picture several weeks later.

for John Kerry. It was obvious at least to me, this was a shining star. Glad others saw the same thing.
