on Tim Kaine...
The Obama camp is militant about leaks - now all these leaks about Kaine.

Makes me wonder....

Kaine endorsed Obama right away. Obama wants to raise his national profile to thank him in case he runs for Senate or something. Obama camp leaks Kaine as on 'The Short List'.

Favor paid.

12. We have a much bigger stake now in the selection of a VP than it used to be . . .
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 11:44 PM by defendandprotect
with a two-term limit, the VP becomes a more viable presidential candidate ---

And, I think especially after Lieberman . . . we should be very wary of who's picked ---

Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 06:49 AM by mikekohr
He won by 587,389 votes. Then there was George H.W. Bush, Tricky Dick Nixon, in 1946, Truman, who succeeded after FDR's death, beat Dewey for re-elction, after that you'll have to google it.

Or it's just a heads up to get him some name recognition before Obama chooses him.

What suspense! ;)

6. I've said all along Kaine was going to be the guy
Because he was with Obama when not many were. That means a lot.

And never forget the quote in VA. The day after he won the nomination.

"In the political business there are a lot of people who are your allies, but not many you can call friends. Tim Kaine is my friend"

15. Where have you been . . . ?? You didn't know this . . .?
There's another thread with a link to the Yahoo article --

I think the article is probably still up at Yahoo ---

HOWEVER, while he is personally pro-life, he has supported Roe vs Wade rights in VA ---

Is this all we have to offer America -- ?

Someone with a 5th Century mentality?

19. I lived in VA and voted for him -- he is anti-choice and against equal rights for gays
He's also anti DP. He isn't a hypocrite, but I personally don't want him as VP. He's a great gov for VA, but we need someone more progressive on those issues as VP. Kaine isn't it.

I very much respect him for NOT being a hypocrite.

It could be a trial balloon to gage reaction...or just a clueless media circle-jerk. Who the heck knows.

8. We now have multiple threads citing leaks from both Obama and Kaine camps

You could be right.

Another possibility is that they have in fact decided to leak it out over the next few days and announce later this week and have a few days of double campaigning right before the Olympics.

If it works it would push McCain off the front pages unless he decideds to announce his choice, which would work to their advantage because it would mean that he couldn't try and bring it up right before or during the convention.

In any case this doesn't look like an accident. If it is on purpose and ends up pushing McCain off the front pages and the cable shows to the Olympics then it would mean that McCain would have minimal media exposure for almost three weeks in a row.

9. Because of you, I like Kaine so far. OTOH, who can make the 'grade'
for McCrabby? Who would want to?

I don't think it's going well over there, and I DO think Obama will announce soon, to get it over with and to enjoy his new partner politically.

21. How in the world is Tim Kaine ready to be a heartbeat from the Presidency?
Nice guy, but VP? He's a 1st term Gov to run with a 1st tem Senator?? Nobody knows who he is,the new meme on Obama is - "Obama the Unknown."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/28/AR2008072802464.html

I hope this is a diversionary leak. Because it would be a soft-bellied ticket that would get poked to death. PLEASE .....NOOOOOO. We have goals. Win and govern well - I don't see how Kaine helps either. If you want a friend, Obama - get a dog.

22. Timing is everything
Leaks can be planned too.

Haven't you ever seen a press release online only to have it disappear within an hour? The 'leak' is planned to gauge reaction and generate hype.

23. it looks like Kaine just pushing himself, and not an Obama campaign leak
<Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine has told close associates that he has had "very serious" conversations with Sen. Barack Obama about joining the Democratic presidential ticket and....>

That is a Kaine leak!
