This media/news situation is in a dangerous state and needs to be addressed
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 06:33 AM by EV_Ares
I have a question if anyone bothers to read this post and that is why doesn't the democrats or their leadership have a meeting with these networks or whatever about the state of the media in this country soon. Maybe they have but take a look at these shows and look at the make-up of them. They are almost all conservative anymore. You will see a split screen doing an analysis of the election or whatever and it will almost always be two conservatives. You will see a panel discussing matters and it will be either all conservatives or they certainly have the majority and the floor. It is total bs, supposedly this country is pretty well split down the middle, so it should be one and one, liberal and conservative. Yeah, sure you have Olberman, you have Rachael and a few others sprinkled around here and there but the vast majority of all of these shows is a conservative viewpoint.

The dems need to realize if they are going to get their message out you have to have a media that reaches the people and very little of the liberal viewpoint is getting out anymore and it is not because there is not an audience for it, it is because the media is a corporate owned entity anymore which owns all of the press, tv and radio news and they are trying to silence the last beacon of hope for us, the internet.

I just think this has reached a dangerous point and if not addressed soon and something done, it is very difficult for us to hold on.

1. It has been like this for a long time.
In fact, it is the dismal state of the media that has given rise to sites like DU, MYDD, Media Matters, and outlets like Air America etc etc...

This has been the central battle from the start.

2. Speaking of Air America, I cannot find it on the dial. What are
the numbers, anyone know? I've tried several times and get a really bad headache as I scan through the stations, waiting for them to announce their call letters. I would like to listen to Rachel Maddow but cannot find her. It is advertised on TV as 4 to 6 PM...but where? (Eastern time?)

17. Precisely.."the central battle"... it's just sometimes
Democrats must forget or something that they are the enemy just like the neocons.

3. Must work hard to get Obama elected....
Currently there is no counter to the right-wing media borg and they know it. Obama knows it too and has a plan but things will only change if we can get him into the WH (and "they" know it too).

In the meantime, we pressure our higher level Democrats to be more vocal and supportive and use what power we have in the form of emails and complaints to the media. Of course, it goes without saying that liberal blogs are extremely important right now in the spread of information and the power it has in the ability to communicate with a wide range of people.

If Obama is not elected, we risk losing the internet, as it will certainly become the next target of control by the neocons.

corporate media. Look already what is occuring on that front.

As you say, this is why it is so important that Barack gets elected.

6. Oh lawdy do i know it but - we still all have free access.....
we can still find pockets of likeminded people.

This has to stop. Internet will be filtered, services will be limited and they will take packet-sniffing to an all new level.

It'll be little China over here if they have their way.

9. Yep. That was amazing how the media started singing in unison about
"media bias." It's so fucking transparent.

14. They know how to follow orders and collect a check.

We've got a perfect storm brewing - 9% approval for Congress, mid 20% for the executive branch, and 10-15% positive support for how the media does it's job. The spin is heard by fewer each month. As the economy continues to collapse, the "messengers" will be the object of a lot of well deserved public anger. So many lies, so little time to idnetify them;)

:hi:

11. This has been on my mind all week... What can we do, because
it's obvious that the congress/senate doesn't plan to do shit about this situation.

Can the members of MoveOn join together and do battle with the powerful MSM? This just isn't right that they have the power to continuously ram their point of view onto people.

13. I am glad someone is asking because your question is my question and
I really feel if it is not addressed at least after the election should Barack and the dems get stronger control of the senate and house, things will get worse. Already, they have control of the media and the talking heads that are conservative are filling the airwaves, Murdoch is gobbling up newspapers, they want to get control of the internet because this is where the fight is and where we are able to get the news or real news.

Yes, but even here on DU, it is a talking point or issue for a few minutes then who knows.

The fascist media has taken over and it doesn't take a brick wall to fall on our heads.

I know team Obama has planned to win this without the mainstreamediaWHORES reporting the facts..how could they not? After what they did to Kerry and Gore and all those in between?
