1. Good sign? No, I don't think they've become "enlightened".
And, sad to say, reporting a smear as a smear sometimes just perpetuates the smear.

Low attention span listeners just hear the smear, not the truth being explained.

2. The Republican attack machine is still potent and way more focused than we are.
The Repubs know how to take a positive and turn it into a negative and they don't care if they need to lie to do it.

Obama better figure out a way to fix this. His "new politics" have been taken over by the old Atwater tactics.
