McCain's ad has a pejorative, but it's not what you think |
|
The message that they are trying to send is that Obama is a "celebrity" in the mold of Brittany and Paris.
Who are totally different in and of themselves.
Brittany Spears is someone who had a demonstrated talent over a fairly long period of time who let her personal soap operas overcome and supersede that talent. Old story, nothing new there, but always sad.
Paris Hilton is a non-talent who is basically famous for being attractive, rich and stupid.
Me being who I am (liberal Democrat) am not seeing ANY subliminal or conscious ways in which one would equate either of these people with Obama.
But WAIT! There is one subliminal subtext but it reflects more on McCain than on Obama.
ENVY!!!!!! JEALOUSY!!!!!
The thing that all 3 have in common to the McCain campaign is that they are deemed UNWORTHY of the attention being paid to them.
And in a really, really weird turn of events, McCain is in effect, calling Obama BLONDE (synonym for empty headed)

2. I can see what you're saying. OTOH, America worships celebrities. |
|
And there's this weird cognitive dissonance that happens when they get so exposed to them. It's almost like Stockholm Syndrome; they start to identify with them. When I'm getting my hair done every month I sit and listen to the stylists talking about the latest starlets and reality shows. You'd think they were personal friends with these people! That's why I think the ad could ultimately be helpful to Obama in some corners. If I were him, I'd do an SNL sketch with Paris and Britney the minute they come off hiatus. He's just been compared to the 2 most famous women in America! Make the most of it. :)

3. Funny thing is conservatives admire Paris and always defend her actions with she worked hard |
|
for her money, after all she had to get up early to do photo shoots. At least thats what I hear from conservatives when I bring up the Paris tax break republicons were trying to pass for spoiled rich kids waiting for parents and grand parents to kick the bucket to get their hands onto the family fortune.

4. Yea that's it exactly...McCain |
|
just called his own weakness out in this ad.....He can't get the adulation, the crowds or give crowds any hope of change....
He is jealous because he is not the young handsome soldier who returned triumphantly as a war hero from Vietnam. He is angry because he believes he is owed the Presidency because of his military service and his congressional service........McCain is seething hatred for Obama and it's showing in the ads.
McCain's adds over the next 3 months will continue to get more negative, racist and hateful.....at the same time the economy will continue to spiral downward.....
McCain's ads look like high school kids produced them at this rate he will burn through his money like a wildfire.........
