Alien: coming to a McCain near you

Obama 'has to hit back harder' 'go negative hard' we are told.

"Obama is repeating all of Kerry's mistakes"

"Obama doesn't have a plan"

"Obama has to hit back hard now"

Can we review a few facts first?

First is the idea that Obama doesn't have a plan. We have been watching this guy from February 2007 and we all thought he had a crazy plan. Even if you were for him on that Feb. 10th morning, in the cold, you had to think, this guy's plan is crazy.

Crazy like a fox.

Obama has a plan. Obama has studied every general election campaign for the last 20 years and they have planned out responses to all the negative hits that are coming at them.

I would like to tell you his plan.

I can't he keeps it to himself.

Now why would he take the "mock him to death" approach rather than "slap him silly" approach.

You might want to ask President Clinton about that. Senator Obama seemed to have a pretty good understanding of his opponent. It seemed that by making a few superficial remarks about Ronald Reagan it got under his skin.

Then came South Carolina. Like Muhammed Ali he just took out the great Sony Liston and Liston the pro never saw it coming.

Senator McCain, it seems to me, is approaching his South Carolina moment rather early.

He is running stupid ads and when he gets asked about them tells people he is 'proud' of him.

Its like watching the Alien for the first time.

You know there is something under the guys skin as he is eating. You can see McCain getting more and more uncomfortable.

We all know its going to come out:

Now why is McCain getting more and more erratic now?

The polls are showing a horse race right?

No they are not.

Here is what the national polls look like when the pollsters ask people to respond to who they support when third party candidates are added:

But we don't run a national election. We run a state by state winner take all election. So how does that look?

While some states are getting closer what is really happening is that McCain's strong support is just draining away. Look at three states on that chart. Look at NC, TX and AZ. If McCain loses 3 points in each of those states they all move one column left.

McCain is starting to struggle in Texas. And its giving him a pain in his stomach. Without Texas he has nothing.

All this while Obama is sitting on his money and organizing. He hasn't rolled out his commercials or mailers etc.

People think that Obama doesn't have a plan and that he has to start doing "this or that".

Well most people thought he was crazy to campaign in Idaho.

Crazy like an Alien coming right up through McCain's stomach.
