I can't do it anymore...I try but I can't...cable political shows are off my viewing list...
This recent "Gosh, we're all so outraged by Obama playing the race card" did it for me...once again. Every so often I try to tune into the Race to the Whitehouse, Hardball, or the CNN equivalent (does every show still have Wolf Blitzer as the host?), but I only seem to be able to last a few weeks. The latest time ended today with all the false outrage over comments Obama has said in one form or another since he started campaigning last year.

I just feel truly sad for those folks who's job it is to be handed a set of talking points and to act like they really believe it. I used to feel even more sorry for myself for getting sucked into this nonsense.

No more...

10. Exactly. They have no problem at all with it, obviously.
Not as if they're living hand-to-mouth, and desperately in need of those huge fat paychecks.

13. I'm going to say something very unpopular...
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 06:50 PM by Whisp
it's just like that, when it comes to having 'your stuff' and a regular paycheck, even if ill gotten gains, the paycheck always wins.

like the military. the military is a Huge employer, the offshoots and all count as half the national budget if I am correct.
How many military people are 'quiting' because they don't like whats happening in Washington or what fake 'wars' they get sent to? how many would be willing to lose their paychecks, and houses, and cars, just to make a statement of some sort. very few, I'm guessing. So Cheney and all get yachts and billion dollar homes for this war thing, and most just get regular homes and a vacation maybe every year. It's all relative. Regular homes and vacations every year to some people the US have trashed and pillaged over the decades is like that Cheney yacht and home to us.

The system is set up where it's almost impossible for us to do the right thing.

16. No... I understand what you're saying...
it's hard to see people making as much as the media clowns or people like cheney having any excuse *at all* though.

3. I said the same thing a little while ago. I have to get away from them. I don't think I have
ever got so pissed off with the way this media is handling this stuff. Can't stand Scarborough and Gregory who are getting worse and worse and more blatant day by day so hey, I can come on here and hearing about it won't have the same effect as watching those idiots.

5. Even when its not Obama, its still just big time wrestling in another form...
There is nothing either real or informative at all about these shows. They really are just big time wrestling redux. I fully expect each of the announcers to start getting goofy handles and increasing their amount of colorful spandex worn in years to come...

6. If only some of us could just document what they were talking about,
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 06:26 PM by FrenchieCat
then the rest of us who don't watch could still write and phone them.

Our problem is that we can talk and write stuff here,
but we never seem to want to go all of the way and let them have it.

Many of us believe that our letters don't make a difference, and that is
exactly what they want you to think. It is easier not to write, so it is an
easy proposition for us.

Me, I want to win....so even things that I don't see, I will get an email address or two or three and write about it.

We need to be using Activist HQ at DU more. So far the projects that have been handed to us, have had nothing to do with communicating with the media in reference to this election. That's an opportunity that is being missed (talking to Earl).

7. Should Watch Fox To Understand The Reality Some People Live In
Many people blame Democrats for not coming up with some clever strategy that will make Fox News fall in love with Democrats. However, I wonder whether these folks have watched Fox News. The risk of not watching the cable news shows, is that we do not know the extent of the media bias we live with. For example, the amazing amount of free airplay given to anti-Obama ads by Fox News where such ads almost appear to be played on endless loop on the news shows all for free.

Obama's ads? No play whatsoever, and its not because Fox news agrees with the views expressed therein. The sad thing is that most Americans live in this world. We should watch it on occasion so we don't forget this.

8. I wonder who they think their audience is.
I am also through with shows that are just pundits throwing around their various takes of the days events which are always defined as issues of personality and appearance, never of issues and substance.

I tune in every once in a while to watch Rachael just because she is so damn good and smart, but nothing like when I HAD to watch Crossfire ( long time ago) and Hardball.

Their audience is news junkies. News junkies KNOW they are tripe. If they lose even the news junkies (like me) they literally have NO audiance.

LIV don't care. High information voters already have more and better information than what they provide. Everyone else is leading their own busy lives and watching Jeopardy.

9. I certainly qualify as a news junky...I agree that their audience should be vanishing...
I just have a hard time seeing how anyone still enjoys this stuff. I must be wrong, but still...

the chattering heads are just readers of the daily talking points - trying to build up a terrible candidate mccain.
Then they trash Obama.
I will stick with Stewart and Colbert though.

17. Do not go back on your promise to yourself. Here's a way to innoculate yourself
from any desire to waste your time watching that BS. Everyday, tune in to any of the network talking head shows, but keep it on MUTE. Watch for 2 to 3 minutes. I guarantee you that you will have no desire to listen to them. By keeping it on MUTE you are able to get a very clear depiction of the garbage they are feeding you.
