Patrick Buchanan Slams Bush and the Neocons
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 06:15 PM by indyjones1938
Even though I don't agree with him on any social issues, it seems like Patrick Buchanan is one of the last true conservatives left with a working brain. I respect him, in a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" sort of way." Check out some of these scathing quotes from his new book to be released in September, possibly a devastating blow for Bush and the Neocons:

“It is false to say President Bush presided over a ‘jobless recovery.’ His trade deficits have created many millions of jobs in China.”

“The Beltway Right has entered into a civil union with Big Brother.”

"The Bush National Security Strategy “is the imperial edict of a superpower out to exploit its present supremacy to make itself permanent Lord Protector of the universe.”

“This is democratic imperialism. This will bleed, bankrupt and isolate this republic. This overthrows the wisdom of the Founding Fathers about what America should be all about.”

"“Listening to the neoconservatives, Bush invaded Iraq, united the Arab world against us, isolated us from Europe, and fulfilled to the letter bin Laden’s prophecy as to what we were about. We won the war in three weeks -- and we may have lost the Islamic world for a generation."

"“If Iraq collapses in chaos and civil war, there will be a ferocious fight in this country over who misled us and who may have lied us, into war....into the dock will go the neoconservatives whose class project this was...”

"“Terrorism is the price of empire. If we do not wish to pay it, we must give up the empire.”

"“U.S. dominance of the Middle East is not the corrective to terror. It is a cause of terror. Were we not over there, the 9/11 terrorists would not have been over here.”

5. NO NO NO!
Buchanan is a total nut job. Remember him screaming about illegal immigrants at the '92 repub convention? Fuck him, we don't need him.

6. He'd never endorse Kerry
Buchanan hates Kerry as much as he hates Bush. But, like him or not, Buchanan has a lot of guts to attack Bush's foreign policy like he does.

3. Yeah, he's old school conservative
I like the "enemy of my enemy" description. That's pretty much what it is. Millions of people like and agree with Buchanan. So, he doesn't need to endorse Kerry (and I don't want him to) but he can enrage enough repukes to not even bother to vote. Could work wonders. You know, they won't vote for bush but refuse to vote for Kerry.

4. That's the one reason why I have to say I respect Buchanen
I hate his views, BUT you gotta at least respect the fact that he says what's truly on his mind. You don't get double talk from this guy. He does not stooge for anyone either.

I know he's bashed Kerry too and of course I dislike him for that, but for one thing I don't think it's been nearly on the same level as what Bush and his smearbums have done, not to mention I think he's been far more damaging to Bush than Kerry.

8. There is wonderful insight here
and a bare naked assessment of current affairs and a true knowledge of history.

Too bad it comes from Patrick J. Buchanan

Yeah, the guy might be a nutjob on social issues, but he knows his stuff when he talks foreign policy. I mean, a powerful (and very true) quote like this...

"Listening to the neoconservatives, Bush invaded Iraq, united the Arab world against us, isolated us from Europe, and fulfilled to the letter bin Laden’s prophecy as to what we were about. We won the war in three weeks -- and we may have lost the Islamic world for a generation."

...could just as easily have come from Kerry's mouth.

12. That is good. I also like these
"“Terrorism is the price of empire. If we do not wish to pay it, we must give up the empire.”

"“U.S. dominance of the Middle East is not the corrective to terror. It is a cause of terror. Were we not over there, the 9/11 terrorists would not have been over here.”

Sounds a little like Roy or even Chomsky or Zinn.

11. Yes, it's a sad state of affairs
when you look over to the fella on your right in the foxhole, shells raining around you, and you're glad to see it's Pat Buchanan. Face it, he is someone people who won't listen to us will listen to.
