I suppose that this thread is an attack against me for posting about Buchanan's anti-Neocon book. Fine, I don't care. I won't get into an argument because I know how trigger-happy the mods are here, and relatively new posters are usually attacked left and right no matter what they post. :eyes:
But I will say this: Buchanan's book is an all-out attack on Bush's foreign policy, trade policy and the Straussian neocons who support him. If projected sales hold up, it could have the effect of siphoning votes away from Bush. Sure, Buchanan fans aren't going to vote for Kerry but I'd rather them stay home and not vote at all than show up to vote for Bush. Buchanan got 448,000 votes in 2000. Gore won the popular vote by 500,000. So if Buchanan's book could convince 448,000 potential Bush supporters to stay home on Nov. 2nd, I say bring it on.
And furthermore, if you read the quotes that are posted in the other thread, every single one of them is critical of Bush - harshly critical, the kind of stuff many people at DU would like JK to say. And I agree with Buchanan that Bush's policies have shipped millions of jobs off to China et al. instead of keeping them here in the USA. That was, in fact, a key theme of both the Gephardt and Edwards campaigns and has now been incorporated into the K-E campaign.
I do not agree with Buchanan on any social issues, and I strongly disapprove of his attacks on Kerry. But come Nov 2nd, his book will have the effect of hurting Bush - not Kerry.
Sometimes you have to adopt the mantra that "the enemy of your enemy is your friend."

Never said you had to get in bed with him, but I'd rather his 448,000 supporters stayed home on Election Day instead of voting for Shrub.
Sorry if I got you upset. I'm just being pragmatic, and think that every Buchanan supporter who stays home is one less vote for Bush.
