John McCain Would Be One Of the Top 5 Richest Presidents Ever
Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 03:34 PM by Median Democrat
We remember all the discussions of John Kerry's wealth even though most of it was attributable to his wife, Theresa:

http://www.forbes.com/2004/02/13/cx_da_0213kerry.html

Big Media, of course, heavily reported Kerry's wealth even though it belonged to his wife, and used such reports to paint John Kerry as an elitist. However, if we are going to be fair, and Big Media is fair isn't it, shouldn't there be an analysis of where John McCain would rank among presidents based on wealth? Since the media saw fit to include Theresa's wealth, the same rule should apply to John and Cindy McCain.

Well, it turns out that John McCain will be richer than even George W. Bush, who had $15 million upon entering office. John McCain has a net worth between $40 million to $100 million. Indeed, Cindy has been very insistent on keeping her finances private, thus many estimates peg her net worth in the $100 million range, which would probably put John McCain in the top 5 richest Presidents of all time.

Barack Obama? Sadly, he will not crack the top 10, since he only has a net worth of about $1.3 million, thus we can expect the WSJ or CNN to run the story of is Obama too poor to be President, since he does not have the wealth of Bush or McCain.

Yup, I think its more likely that we get a Big Media story about whether Obama is too poor to be President, rather than weather John McCain is too rich. What's up with these candidates from Illinois like Lincoln and Obama? Too skinny and too poor.

1. Shoot, No One The Slightist Bit Surprised?
I remember the constant reminders of John Kerry's wealths, including that story in Forbes that I linked. In contrast, there isn't squat about John McCain. Is this a legit issue for a campaign that is trying to paint Obama as an elistist?

3. I knew John Sidney McCain III had seven homes and $520 loafers
but didn't know his net worth was over $40 million. I thought he was only super-rich by proxy, through his darling Cindy.

5. MSM Did Not Draw That Distinction With Kerry - Bias At Work Again
Theresa Heinz's wealth was used to attack John Kerry throughout the 2004 campaign, and his wealth was being raised quite early as the Forbes article makes clear. In sharp contrast, there is very little mention of John/Cindy's wealth or more importantly that like Kerry, McCain would be one of the richest Presidents to take office if he is elected. I actually think it is worth pointing out given that the GOP tries portray Obama as elistist and out of touch. Really? Then, what does that make John McCain who has a net worth of at least $40 million, and wears Ferragamo loafers? A man of the people?

Obamas' house vs. McCains' many houses.

Net worth vs. net worth.

Lifetime income from federal government side by side.
