Are We Making Some Unsound Assumptions?
We are making some real "iffy" assumptions. Things are at a critical juncture where we have to dealwith the "reality on the ground", so to speak, in this election--both us and the campaign.

First, Rassmassen just destroyed an assumption that was on this board last night that no one is listening to TV political coverage and these ads, etc. like us junkies are. 69% of those voters interviewed by Rassmassen said they both saw the Britney/Paris ad and the news coverage/discussion of it. (Only 22% thought it racial). Sorry, we aren't the only ones who are watching.

Second, we have dismissed it all as too early because no one is paying attention at this stage of the game and are on vacation. I disagree. The primaries showed us that there is massive interest in this race. And, there is a lot less "vacationing" and more "tv watching" this year because people are broke.

That leaves us with some unpleasant things we have to face. Yep, the ads are getting through (and not just to junkies) and what we have seen in a week with the polls is quite accurate (Rassmassen has had Obama at least by a point this week but today is giving no numbers but a simple statement that Obama has lead McCain by a narrow margin since the beginning...i.e., it's down to percentages of 1%).

That leaves us with the task of conveying to the Obama campaign that they cannot save up all the nuts for a fall push. They need ads defining McCain (McCain=Bush)right now and not three weeks from next month)! I suspect that racism is now coming out in all it's "glory" and is why McCain is riding the "racial" horse. It's Politics 101 to make this all about McCain as the second coming of Bush and get this focus off Obama's back. As you could see on MTP, Obama now is not just fighting McCain but the media is going to march McCain's "so-called great gains" right over Obama's face until Obama is clawing upwards at his convention rather than putting the cherry on the top. Let's push the Obama campaign to get the images out there now!

1. I think the Obama campaign is probably familiar with Politics 101.
The last thing they need is thousands of more "advisors", each trying to tell them how they believe things should be done.

3. That was our exact sentiment
..right up to the voting booth 4 years ago and then we were stunned that what we believed was going to be a fabulous campaign just never made the right calls to get over the finish line. I hate to bring this up but will: Obama started out as a phenom at the beginning of the primaries and picked up his "points" for the finish line---and then Hillary just basically destroyed him in the last half - his campaign didn't seem to know how to handle that. That's why I think they need to "hear" from the people now. He's listening to the polls on off shore drilling; he needs to hear from his supporters to edge him in the right direction because "speed" is now the name of the game.

2. WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE DEMOCRATS?!??!?!?!
Here's my generic letter and thread from the other day.

Take action!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph ...

WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS???!?!??!

I don't care what anyone says: the standards are different for black men. Suppose that Obama gets down and dirty; suppose, even, that he went negative, focusing only on McSame's flip-flops or the issues in general? Can't we realize how the media would spin as something negative, something nefarious??

Can't we understand that the recent charge that Obama is "arrogant" and "presumptuous" are code for "he's the quintessential angry black man?"

He can't do this. He needs effective surrogates--preferably the Democratic leadership--to help him fight against these lies and smears!!

WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS?!?!??!??!

4. Liberal - EXACTLY
I've been raging inside for weeks now - even when Obama was way ahead. My god, except for, say, Kerry, the rest are like the repuke politicians who don't want to be seen near Bush! What the hell is going on. Not a goddamn one of them is exactly breaking a sweat defending Obama. That's why I fear what is going on. They must sense all the "racial" crap in their own districts and thus don't really want to be seen "hanging around him". This party is starting to make me sick. So help me god if we lose this, after 50 years of voting I will not bother to vote again. They can kiss my ass for their votes.

6. If Rasmussen is the bible at DU,
then I expect that the uninformed masses will buy what the media and their pollsters are serving.

You are an example of that.

8. Yes, SOME people are making "unsound assumptions" ...
... like assuming they know how to run a presidential campaign.

9. It is understandable that those of us who were really
engaged in 2000 and 2004 are nervous because the Repubs are using the same tactics now that they did then.

Unfortunately, the smear tactics worked back then.

We all hope that they don't work this time.
