I think that the VP pick could still be Webb...as the surprise... |
|
Webb could simply say that the rhetoric spouted from McCain and the MSM has been so distorted on Obama's positions that he had no choice but to take the position. As he is a first time senator and a new dem, he could be considered not the typical washington insider, yet bring military and foreign policy creds to the table considering his service and his position as naval secretary under reagan. He is a pit bull. He has also been uncharacteristically silent lately. His nomination would certainly be a surprise.
Further, as he has said NO very boisterously, the right wing would have called off the dogs on preparing attacks against him and instead, focus on Biden, Bayh, Kaine, etc. as they are the media lapdog's flavors of the week!
Just my two cents

However, in all I've read and in an interview he did with Terry Gross he was adamant that he had no interest in higher office; his current position gave him the say he wanted in Government and allowed him to pursue his intellectual efforts.

5. If he is scared of the establishment he will pick someone with military expertise...... |
|
but if he is smart and brave someone to give him the best up on domestic issues will be his choice. Placating one group or another with a choice is also a lose-lose mentality which i haven't seen him gravitate to very much if any. His choice will probably be different and probably good in the long run so i see no need in being too concerned about it :-)

I find Webb barely tolerable. I only voted for him because the alternative was George Allen, and I had to hold my nose to do it. I honestly don't think I could vote for him again - in any capacity.
He was a very sexist, obnoxious Secretary of the Navy under Reagan, and him being against the Iraq war will never be enough to mitigate his ugly background or the fact that he is a paranoid gun nut.
