I usually don't believe in conspiracy theories but check this out. The SBV come out with a smear ad which basically calls Kerry a liar, and it is funded by Rep. operatives. At the same time while things are going badly in Iraq, the economy is in the can, and health care is in trouble, the media is stuck talking about these stupid ads. Kerry has to come out and confront the SBV, and now he has an ad out talking about the SBV instead of the important issues. Now Bush is saying he wants an end to all 527's, something Kerry will not support. I think this is a plan by the Bush administration to get rid of PAC's like MoveOn once and for all. Also they are using the SBV as a smoke screen to cover there asses. They want Kerry to attack the SBV because it will make Kerry look bad, what Kerry has to do is keep the attack on Bush but also keep attacking his policies as well. If we allow ourselves to get stuck in an argument over Kerry's medals and Vietnam that could hurt Kerry. We need to swiftly, no pun intended, discredit these ads and move back attacking Bush's policies. This is a road block this administration has put up, and I don't want it to stop us.

2. THat is a pretty good theory |

Because Bush does need the move on ads to stop.
What is unfortunate is that no one asks the president why he lumps ads discussing his actions as president in with ads falsifying the service of a veteran 30 years ago into the same category.

but consider the average life of a controversial news story. Ride out the next 10 days, and the Smear vets will fade away.. I am surprised they came out this early.
Kerry needs to make his statement about it, make it his final one, stay on point, and get this race back to the failures of * and the trouble this country is in...here and Iraq.
Back to Carville..ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID!

6. Not to mention the time and $$ it is costing the Kerry camp |
|
... to be on the defensive about this one non-issue.
Rove is trying to bankrupt the campaign by making the same lame accusations over and over, so there'll be no money or energy left come mid-October when real issue-ads would kick *'s ass.

Is that Rove played a gambit to put a stop to 527 ads.
It's not going to work. It the SBV want to say Kerry lied to win his medals iv Vietnam, they're lying and it has now been demonstrated that they are lying. If MoveOn wants to say that there is no evidence that Bush fulfilled his obligation to the TANG and the he got his assignment to the TANG as a draft dodge when his well-connected family pulled the right strings, that's that truth.
Our turth beats their lies. The Bush campaign will just have to get over it.

MoveOn would be better served talking about important social and domestic issues. They should do more to talk about the economy than anything else. It's not so much that this hurts Kerry its just that this SB contraversy is a smokescreen for Bush, much like the terrorist alerts. I think Bush went AWOL too, but really I don't care. The regular people are not going to care where Bush was during Vietnam. I know it's a big difference between the two, but Kerry's war record gives him a leadership standing. It doesn't help him on the social and domestic issues. Watch the debates, they will ask about his voting record and he will finally be able to set the record straight. That is when he will shine, because he is more articulate than Bush and he won't be a snob like Gore was.

and I would not label your brainstorming a conspiracy theory. These guys are expert at diverting attention and manipulating the media. They'll do whatever they can to keep the focus off of shrub's record (or lack of). It's clear they've got Kerry on the defensive at this point - they are controlling the show. That said, I expect the convention to focus on Kerry's senate record and attempt to tear it to pieces. They won't mention his vietnam record.
