Hate the Media Thugs? Let's BE our own Media
In 2004, we were faced with the same issue at DU, our concerns were not being addressed in the National "Fair and Balanced" so called "News."

Here is the thread from 4 years ago.
Now we have youtube and KO but that is about it.

We still need a Palm Size Newspaper leading up to the election.

Something that you can leave on your seat on the bus. Something that can reach the masses of people that don't have the "pleasure" of listening to Morning Joe and the gang of thugs.

Any positive ideas and suggestions are welcome.

1. like it
could we organize into a few groups- print, web and email? I think we should be writing emails to local papers with same stories that are in "our" paper, sending out email newsletters, and doing the print stuff.

We need help with : what are the top stories?
Print layout and actual stuffing and leaving
email newsletters if we do that-- we can use same format as the print stuff

I'll sign up to do emailing MSM with our stories. I've got a number of local friends to work with me on Video the Vote this year, which is very important. WE'll make a video out of any voter irregularities or fraud we find. Will be sending it to videothevote, youtube, KO, and anyone else I can think of ASAP after voting is completed. TOE. Anyone with a video cam should check it out at videothevote.com. While we still have these channels available, let's make them work for us. Anticipate their bs and be prepared for it.

Anybody else???

2. Fantastic!

Just think that 4 years ago we didn't have access to other media outlets.

Now we do and yet we still need to get to those that don't have a clue about the lies the Media is feeding them.

Love your ideas that the emails can be the same format as the PALM NEWS, that way our email buddies can print some out and drop them in the right places.

It would also be great to GOTV ~ we need to let people on buses etc. know how they can register
If we had a template we could fill in the blanks for our city/local procedures etc.

With the Recession going full blast, probably many will not even keep their subscriptions to Media Trash like the Los Angeles Times.

So many people don't understand that ABC "News" is a tool.

In my brain, I wish that someone could design a template that fold in 4 parts and gives you 4 copies per scheet. We could leave one in the market basket at the local store, leave it on the seat on the bus, leave it in the seat when you leave the movies etc.

I can see it clearly but am not Tech Smart....

JUST THE TRUTH NEWS
Backing it up with the FACTS

( Examples Only) Barack Obama IS NOT a Muslim
The Republicans are trying to make you afraid, the TRUTH IS
---- direct quote from OBAMA or real source)

ETC.

3. I think it would be easy to go to BarackObama.com and print out some of the key
positions and you can share it with people that you see or leave a few around.

Obama has the best idea - go door to door and find the people that want to vote but are not registered and help them get registered.

Call your local Obama office and ask how you can help them - its fun.

6. good for mom. Happy Birthday

At the campaign office when somebody suggests a non planned type of campaigning that your suggesting they will say "If you can't record it, it doesn't count". At the first it seems as if they are discouraging you just getting out and talking to people on your own. Really though what they have found is that by canvassing and keeping track of people then it is much more efficient to direct information at folks than just random acts. (For one thing you may be taking to people who aren't even registered to vote. For example during my last canvassing I ran up on a Republican that wasn't enthusiastic about either candidate. I knew that I wasn't going to convince her of anything so I just ask her what her occupation is - she is a teacher and hates 'no child left behind'. So that is recorded and goes back to the campaign and they know to mail out some education material or have a teacher call her and talk to her about Obama's position.

My suggestion is that you just drop by the Obama office and talk to them about what you can do. If you like calling on the phone (I don't) then they will have you call some other state. If you prefer walking around and talking to folks they will have you walk and canvass. You can even tell them that you want to go door to door but you would prefer to do it with somebody for a while until you are comfortable.

I like canvassing and its not like DU, people are relaxed and not as aggressive as they are in here.

5. Good idea!
K&R! Everything we can do to get the truth out helps. Picking up the copy from the Obama website would save a lot of work, too! :kick:

15. I'm calling the campaign office to see how we can best get their
message out to people that don't have the internet and don't get the Newspapaer and don't have Cable tv.

I am especially concerned with GOTV.

8. I just want the thugs to stop saying Osama... What other Bin Laden has been in the news lately?
It isn't like we could possibly confuse one Bin Laden for another. This all just leads to the occasional Osama Obama screw up.

If they just dropped Bin Laden's first name I would be happy, err.... less disgusted.

9. registering voters
great ideas. I made some calls today about registering voters and while I was out, I noticed several areas where I think I can sign a ton of previously disenfranchised people up -- which rocks. don't forget video the vote if you can! we may need proof after the election (even though we're going to win) and we want to be prepared for the thugs.

13. I was just reading Obama's website

There is a web page there called FIGHT the SMEARS.

It can be emailed with the link to all of our email buddies.

The FIGHT the SPEARS topics are so well done and honest.

Wish they had a printable version that we could make into a Palm Size Newspaper.

Grantcart wisely said that information should be quoted directly from his website and not from other sources.

That way, we would be in step with the fantastic campaign staff. Every time I visit the site it gets better and better.
