If Bayh VP: There Goes the Chance of a Filibuster-Proof Majority.
We need Bayh's seat to stay Democratic if we have any chance of reaching 60. It was possible if we switched the 10 close repubs, and hold Louisiana.

If Bayh is selected VP, we will no longer have the opportunity of reaching filibuster-proof numbers. At best, we will be looking at a potential 59-1-40. A strong majority to be sure, but not unstoppable.

2. The ONLY Senators that should be considered are the ones with
Dem Gov's. I would be happier with Hillary.

Or a Dem Governor from a red state. Or WES CLARK!

3. 60 seats is more important than anything that Bayh can bring as
a candidate. I don't see what he can bring that would ensure a win more than other choices that would not compromise the possibility of reaching 60 seats.

5. Why are so many of the names compromising significant Democratic gains?
The pool to choose from is deeper than that. We don't have to give up wins!

6. I would love Bayh,,,, but you make a GREAT point.
I might have to rethink this.

We need a Filibuster-Proof Majority when Barack wins.

7. THe pukes will be so enraged when they lose the WH,
the will "filibuster" everything. They drag the Senate down. The Super Majority should be goal number 1, after the WH.

9. We certainly need all the Dems we can get,
but it will take more than just 60 to get a veto proof majority. Probably more like 65 to 68. I think you have to take into consideration the "blue dogs" and how they will gum up the works. There is no way to gain that many seats in this election cycle IMO.

10. Not if Jill Long Thompson is elected governor
If Thompson beats Mitch Daniels, she would appoint a Dem to replace Bayh in the Senate.

15. Depends on Daniels's popularity
Last I checked, Daniels is not that beloved in Indiana.

12. The mental gymnastics people are doing ...
to try to figure out a way to hate this guy as a VP pick are astounding ...

Let's get one thing right here ... Evan Bayh or no even Evan Bayh, the Dems are NOT going to get to 60 senators in this election ... Not even close ... They are NOT going to get 9 this year, just not going to happen ...

Also, let me add this ... IMO, the first priority once they get even one more senator to the ledger ...

Booting Lieberman from the caucus ...

13. A pick-up of ten is possible.
I agree about Lieberman getting the boot. I also think we need to HOLD every seat and work hard to pick-up the 10 that could change.

I absolutely could happen. We swept all but one of the possible races in 2006.

I have nothing personally against Bayh, I just want the Democratic Senate to be stronger. Why give the pukes a seat? They should at least have to work for it.

14. the Senate is one consideration -- leadership chops ought to be another
that's why, if you are thinking Senator, Biden and Clinton ought to be in the mix
