How The Hell Is Obama Doing So WELL???!!!
I mean a black, young, relatively inexperienced politician, who's middle name is "Hussein" is going up against an established, white, POW/War veteran w/ decades of connections, HUGE celebrity-like name recognition and the reputation of being a moderate "maverick", and yet Obama is maintaining a lead in pretty much every poll. How is that possible? What is wrong w/ McCain that he hasn't put this thing away already?

On what planet?

Next you'll tell me it's the "liberal" media that's giving him this free ride and that they're too tough on McCain. :eyes:

... and that we're actually listening to.

It could've been John Kerry. It should've been.

We didn't give him a chance, but that doesn't stop him from saying salubrious things.

22. Perspective - Obama Could Be The First Democrat To Win Pop Vote Since 1976!
Edited on Mon Aug-04-08 08:06 PM by Median Democrat
I think folks who complain about Obama not doing better in the polls simply do not know their history. No Democrat has won 50% of the popular vote since Carter, who won in part due to the disgust with the impeachment of Richard Nixon, and Carter only won 50.1 percent of the vote. Consider that, Nixon was impeached! Nixon/Ford presided over the tail end of the Vietnam war in which thousands of Americans died. Yet, Carter only won the popular vote by 0.1 percent!

Bill Clinton did not win a majority of the popular vote in either of his elections even in 1996 as an incumbent against a weak challenger.

So, the Big Media theme that Obama should be doing better is bullshit. We may hate the Iraq war, but the Vietnam war was far more bloody and divisive, and Nixon was actually impeached. With this history, it is naive to assume that Obama was going to have an easy ride to the White House. Indeed, with the consolidation of Big Media into just 5 large pro-GOP corporations, I would argue that it is harder now than ever before for a Democrat to get elected to the Presidency.

If it weren't for Obama's use of the internet, Obama's personal charisma and ability to fundraise, and the efforts of thousands of volunteers, Obama would be getting rolled by the GOP Big Media juggernaut.

32. He knows how to orate.
He projects an image of knowledge and trust. He's also extremely politically bright. Take a look at the way he presented himself to the world with his Europe trip.

If being right on the issues counted, Kucinich would be our nominee. But he doesn't present like Obama.

There is a facet to your question that I keep asking myself, just as you are. And i don't have complete answers to it. It IS surprising on face value how he got into this position.

Plus I think a fraction more Americans are starting to come out of unconsciousness after all of the disasters we've been subjected to.

Of course the answer is two part.

1. He's amazingly gifted.

2. He's running at exactly the right moment.

But, obviously the frame is what's important, not the answer. The media needs to get this somehow.

Obama is doing fine and as expected for right now. People are involved in this election that have never even been involved let alone VOTED before.

I'm already doing 1000% more in this election than I did in 2004. I know I am not the only one either. This thing will be a landslide by the time November gets here.
