There's a reason senators can't win the WH |
|
BECAUSE OF THEIR LONG RECORD OF VOTES!!!
IMHO, the most critical thing the Obama campaign is NOT doing adequately is bringing up McDummy's votes. It's fair game, totally, and could be done in a very non-offensive and calm, questioning way!!
74% of the people think McDummy cares about the troops ! Votes against pay raises, long time between redeployment, mental health care for returning veterans. Spoke out against GI Bill.
54% of the people think McDummy cares TOO much about the rich! There's got to be a virtual treasure trove of votes he made that favored the wealthy and were against the middle class and poor.

3. It's also because parties tend to nominate Senators that can't win |
|
Like Goldwater, McGovern, Dole, and hopefully McCain.
Bobby Kennedy, Gart Hart, Frank Church, and Birch Bayh all probably could've won at some point if they had ever been nominated.

4. Which is why having a 2 Senator ticket would make things much harder for us |

5. And Since Sen. Obama Doesn't Have A Long Record of Votes.... |
|
They'll hammer him on his length of service (experience).
The Dem Party isn't that stupid that they won't bring up McCain's voting record. It's a question of timing.

7. Neither does McSame--who has a well-known history of skipping controversial votes |
|
but taking credit for the bills when politically expedient.

8. Actually, they usually win |
|
unless the opponent is an incumbent president. The last senator to be nominated and lose to someone other than a sitting president was James G Blaine, who lost to Grover Clevelandin 1884. Since then, only Warren Harding and John Kennedy have been nominated from the Senate when there was no incumbent president running, and both won. On the other hand: John Kerry lost to incumbent George W Bush, Bob Dole lost to incumbent Bill Clinton, George McGovern lost to incumbent Richard Nixon, and Barry Goldwater lost to incumbent Lyndon Johnson.
Defeating an incumbent is extremely difficult, unless the conomy is in really bad shape, in which case the nominee is usually a governor, or former governor.
