The DRILL NOW Choir
My neighbor is a member... seems to be an intelligent well-informed woman, but she SINCERELY believes the 10-year wait period is lefty propaganda. She SINCERELY believes if we start drilling today, relief will come tomorrow. Is she the only member of the choir who thinks this way? I don't think so. I say open the freaking gates and let them drill wherever the hell they want, then I'll sit back and watch the reaction when NOTHING happens.

1. But the few pristine beaches left in the US will be destroyed
That is not worth it to prove to the ignorant masses they are wrong.

8. You could change minds if you started to drill first off the Hamptons shore.

3. I'm expecting to hear this from certain people
when I talk to them, I'm going to focus on how the oil industry is pushing hard for drilling, and ask them, does the oil industry really interested in lowering prices for us?

5. Not only will it takes a decade, but it's only a thimblefull to be sold on the world market...
The Obama campaign needs to have a bold education program about this ~ hell, even T. Boone Pickens knows greediness will have to be satisfied on something other than drilling.

6. Ask your neighbor why she thinks
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 08:25 AM by WilyWondr
the oil companies are holding leases on 60+ million acres of offshore land that they are not drilling on AND are not willing to give up?
If they don't think oil is there why wouldn't they give up those leases?
If they do think oil is there and they are just not drilling on it, why does she think they need more land to sit on?

Direct her to HR 6251 if she doesn't believe this is the case. She should notice who is voting with the oil companies and who is voting against the oil companies(we already know).

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h6251/show
It says in part:
Responsible Federal Oil and Gas Lease Act
To prohibit the Secretary of the Interior from issuing new Federal oil and gas leases to holders of existing leases who do not diligently develop the lands subject to such existing leases or relinquish such leases, and for other purposes.

This whole offshore drilling thing is SO incredibly stupid I could not believe the oil companies were actually trying it before their oilman leaves office. But what has been more amazing is that people are actually falling for it.
This bill hasn't gotten too much coverage in the media.....but that is to be expected at this point.

7. "There's no oil there"
That seemed to be the standard response from the Freak Republic unimind the last time I looked there.

9. But then why not give up the lease
It costs them money to hold and renew these leases, AFAIK. So if they have determined that no oil exists under that land why wouldn't they just give up those leases? This all seems like an old-fashioned land grab to me. They are just trying to accumulate as much land as possible before their oil man leaves office.

10. Why don't you go to Free Republic and ask?
Oh yeah, I forgot...because you'd get banned the minute you did!
