McCain's Mental Impairment: "The Most Important Issue Of the Campaign"

McCain Unhinged: The Must Issue for the Obama Campaign
by Guy Reel
August 4, 2008
CommonDreams.org

To be blunt: He’s a crazy old man who can’t keep his stories straight. He’s a doddering fool. He’s a dangerous, burning fuse that cannot be trusted with the reins of government. It’s not so much that he’s a flip-flopper but that he doesn’t even remember his flips or flops. Even his own campaign says to ignore him. He shouts at clouds and the children who run across his lawn.

Early in the campaign, the McCain camp went ballistic when Obama made a casual comment that McCain was “losing his bearings.” They shouted that this was ageism. They shouted it was an outrage about a “hero,” etc. These kinds of reactions demonstrate how effective these charges are, and how afraid of them the McCain campaign must be. Yet, amazingly, the Obama campaign backed down and has not since touched upon this crucial issue.

But it must. Obama and his campaign must fight back hard. This isn’t about age. It’s about competence. Perhaps in this case that’s tied to age, or, more accurately, to the patterns that some people fall into as they age — they may have difficulty processing simple events, or they cannot remember specific things that they say, or they become unnecessarily angry, or they view the world as a reflection of whatever thought happens to be passing through their minds at the time.

All of these are characteristics evident in John McCain. Is he becoming unhinged? The man says things that are patently untrue, then says the opposite, which he then denies that he said. It’s easy to find reams of data detailing his flip-flops, his flashes of anger, his constant mistakes, his inability to be even remotely consistent on the most basic policies or facts. The pattern has become so alarming that some have wondered if he will even be able to finish the campaign. Again, this is not about age; it’s about the disturbing behavioral characteristics of John McCain.

This is the most important issue of the campaign, and it is the most resonant one for the American people. They’ve seen his dottiness first-hand; they know, deep down, that this is an important issue, even if he has been given such a free pass so far. The voters also know McCain is a temperamental, mean-spirited dinosaur who will support the failed policies of the past. So tell them both of those things in this campaign, over and over.

8. Here's one very good way to phrase it "McCains Not At The Top Of His Game"
points out his inadequacy and weakness but doesn't outright call him senile PLUS it alludes to Obama's athleticism.

This is a very serious and legitimate concern that needs to be addressed in a major way.

3. Hope we will get our surrogates out there talking about it.
The Republicans are not shy about tossing around all kinds of out & out falsehoods about Obama.

Surely we can send out more surrogates to make the true point that JSM III is quite impaired. Way beyond the simple forgetfulness of aging.

John Sidney McCain III, with 7 homes, $520 shoes and unlimited credit, seems to think he can just buy people to fill in the blanks for him, just like Prince Dubya has.

5. Obama can't make it an issue or he'll be hammered for it, but
someone absolutely MUST make it an issue. MOVEON maybe? Someone. McCain does not appear mentally fit to hold the office. The press conference video yesterday was especially telling. He literally forgot the question the second it was asked and just stood there confused.

9. BULLSHIT! Obama simply needs to find ways to constantly allude to it. Symbolically. Like McCain's
playing the race card. Indirectly.

6. This is NOT garden-variety fatigue...this is a Second Term-Reagan level
of complete and utter fogginess on the ability to handle questions!! My own father died from complications related to Alzheimer's after suffering for years with it - I happen to be quite familiar with the associated characteristics...

10. I think his complete lack of morals is a bigger factor
But either way, we write to each other on little web sites like cd while hate radio braodcasts to 30 million or so listeners every day.

11. Right-Wing Republicans Raising Questions About McCain's Mental State
First, check out this Youtube video where McCain stumbles around trying to understand and respond the question.

And here's what a right-wing Republican has to say about McCain's mental state at a website called the RightWing NutHouse, a very good name by the way!

McCAIN IS TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT
By: Rick Moran

I believe McCain is too old to be president. Not in years – 72 is not too old for some. For him, it is. Time has passed him by. Even when not making gaff after gaff he seems unsteady and confused at times. And even If you accept the explanation that McCain speaks off the cuff a lot and one’s tongue is bound to get tied up at times and anyone’s brain can experience a hiccup now and again, his fitness for office – fairly or unfairly – will be a major issue in the campaign.

Of course, the late night comics are having a field day with McCain’s gaffe prone campaign, portraying the candidate as a confused old man and who can blame them? They have plenty of fodder to feast on. Admittedly, the real impact that Leno et al have on voters may be slight. But the constant belittling and denigration of McCain abilities due to his age are not helping to dispel the notion that McCain couldn’t handle the job of president.

In this respect, the slightest doubt among voters about whether he is up to the job might be enough to sink his candidacy. That’s because, as Mike Allen and Jim Vandehei of Politico point out, almost everyone knows an oldster who is slipping away mentally:

McCain’s flubs raise questions of mental fitness. And with every voter aware of the little red button that, when pushed, launches the missiles, they are bound to be much more concerned about a candidate who exhibits similar symptoms to people in their own lives who they have watched as age has taken them away via dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

McCain’s performance on stage can be quite good at times. At other times, he reminds me of the way my mother was just before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

13. Pure coincidence...and ripe for tinfoil hat wearing.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Of all the medical boards one could possibly choose to sit on, why is McCain's son (Andrew or Andy) a board member of Banner Health's Alzheimer's Institute (don't look cause he's not listed there (yet?)?

http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/personinfo/FromPersonIdPersonTearsheet.jhtml?passedPersonId=1137372

http://www.bannerhealth.com/_Alzheimers/Alzheimers_Disease_Institute.htm

Mr. and Mrs. Andy Mccain and Senator and Mrs. John McCain all donated to the Institute according to Banner Health's newsletters, FriendsFall, 2007 (nothing for 2008).

I mean what if the circumstantial connection isn't just a coincidence?

**Warning** there is no proof of any conspiracy to hide McCain's possible mental instability - these are purely coincidental coincidences.

16. McCain Gaffes Pile Up; Critics Pile On
McCain gaffes pile up; critics pile on
By MIKE ALLEN & JIM VANDEHEI
Politico
7/22/08

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said “Iraq” on Monday when he apparently meant “Afghanistan”, adding to a string of mixed-up word choices that is giving ammunition to the opposition.

Just in the past three weeks, McCain has also mistaken "Somalia" for "Sudan," and even football’s Green Bay Packers for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ironically, the errors have been concentrated in what should be his area of expertise: foreign affairs.

In perhaps the most curious incident, McCain said earlier this month that as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he had tried to confuse his captors by giving the names of Pittsburgh Steelers starting players when asked to identify his squadron mates. McCain has told the story many times over the years — but always correctly referred to the names he gave as members of the Green Bay Packers.
