I knew Obama had it in him still
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 03:36 PM by cbc5g
The gloves are off

What he did today was what Kerry couldn't do. We know he isn't Kerry anyways, he is far more charismatic and energetic. He was able to pivot a punch and turn it back onto the opponent. Obama says, "I mean it's like these guys take pride in ignorance! It's like they like being ignorant." after showing how experts suggest inflating your tires is indeed helpful and do more than drilling and that his energy plan is far greater than what McCain proposes. He ridicules them. If he had done the usual and said "No the Republicans are wrong, I was right. Tire gauges are helpful but that's not my plan", then he wouldn't set the debate and we'd see shows like the Situation Room have a "new poll showing 78% of Americans disagree with Obama that using tire gauges is an effective solution, with us now is RNC Chairman blah blah to ridicule Obama more." That allows them to frame the debate. Always on the offensive, never the defensive position. Keep it up Obama.

1. Can't we praise Obama without putting down John Kerry?

3. Claiming we can't talk about the last guy's mistakes makes it hard to learn from them.

You can like it or you can not like it, doesn't matter to me. Learning from mistakes is essential.

10. It is but let's not forget that..

Obama is learning from those mistakes without putting others down. He hasn't forgot who gave him his chance to shine on a national stage in 2004. Kerry has been a nice surrogate for Obama. Kerry is doing for Obama what Democrats should have done for him in 04.

Also, your post contains some MSM spin. Kerry and his family campaigned their hearts out in 2004. Even if it was a "losing" battle. He was considered "charismatic" in 2000 as a candidate for Gore's running mate, but the media said he had none in 2004. Yet, he almost made it and got more votes than any other presidential candidate in history (so far).

Let's not complain about the media, yet buy into everything they fabricate and say about our Democrats.

I agree with book_worm, there are more ways we can praise Obama and his message without putting others down.

2 cents.

11. "Kerry is doing for Obama what Democrats should have done for him in 04." And what
they SHOULD be doing for Obama in '08. For the most part, their silence is deafening!

4. Never let them turn s*** that's not debatable into a debate.
Look where we got when we let them turn whether water boarding is torture and if intelligent design should be taught in schools into debates.

Sometimes you just throw their ignorance in their face and let them wallow in it.

Good on you O!

12. I can't figure it out myself.
You slap the truth right in their face and they simply walk off ignoring any serious conversation to throw another controversial issue at you to show how much more ignorant they are.

15. Just The Right Amount. Anymore And We'd Have Dean Scream Spin
The irony here is that if Obama hits back too hard, then the GOP will try to spin it into the Dean Scream, and argue that he is not fit. Instead, Obama nails them with humor, and when the GOP complains, then Obama can throw back their line, "Hey. we're just trying to inject some humor into the race."

Nice bit of Obama-fu.

16. John Kerry is a supreme democrat, who is much more progressive
than Obama and who has fought for the law and the environment for many years for all of us. The Rove swiftboating in no way diminishes the contributions of Kerry; it just tells the value of lies in positioning campaigns to be stolen. That is what we need to learn from. Kerry won, as did Gore!
