Another long-time Clinton staffer joins Obama's future VP team
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 06:36 PM by mathwhiz
If Obama does shock the world and pick Hillary as VP, she'll definitely feel at home. Very curious to staff the VP's staff before he/she is selected. First it was Patti Solis Doyle and now Seidman.

Ricki Seidman has just been named communications director for the yet-to-be-picked Vice Presidential nominee. Seidman is a Hillary Clinton loyalist going back to Little Rock and the 1992 Clinton Campaign War Room.

3. You know, he could have decided to pick Clinton all along.
I always thought he said "Hillary would be on anyone's short list" as a courtesy, but it's just as possible he really meant it.

I wonder if this is his way of extending the olive branch.

And I wonder how they'll handle the issue of the war, Tuzla and the "lifetime of experience" quote.

9. this quote from Obama always intrigued me
http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/05/22/Obama-Hints-at-Naming-Clinton-to-his-_2700_Team-of-Rivals_2700_.aspx

I can tell you this. My goal is to have the best possible government. And that means me winning. So, I'm very practical in my thinking. I'm a practical guy. One of my heroes is Abraham Lincoln. Awhile back, there was a wonderful book written by Doris Kearns Goodwin called 'Team of Rivals,' in which she talked about how Lincoln basically pulled all the people he'd been running against into his Cabinet. Because whatever personal feelings there were, the issue was, 'How can we get the country through this time of crisis?' I think that has to be the approach one takes to the vice president and the Cabinet.

4. Hillary fired Solis-Doyle--hiring her was actually seen as a sign that
Hillary would NOT be VP.

5. Not necessarily
Patti knows how politics works and new sometimes someone has to be the sacrificial lamb. I believe her that she called to ask if it was ok if she took a job with Obama's campaign. Everyone in Clinton land blames Penn not Dolye...she just fired the wrong person.

6. No--it was considered a slap in the face to Hillary, the PUMA's were all pissed, and
Solis-Doyle was scapegoated back in February. It was an ugly episode.

7. Pumas are pissed when they wake up in the morning
and when they go to bed at night and pissed off all throughout the day inbetween. It doesn't take much to piss off a Puma.

I believe them both that their is no animosity.

8. patti talked to hillary before she accepted the position
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/16/former-campaign-manager-p_n_113196.html

Despite her rough departure from the Clinton campaign during the primaries, former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle said on Wednesday that she still considers Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton a friend -- even after going to work for Sen. Barack Obama.

Solis Doyle said she played phone tag with Clinton as she tried to inform her about her new position as chief of staff to Obama's future vice presidential nominee. In an interview with the Associated Press, Solis Doyle said she wound up sending Clinton an e-mail with the news.

"She's a friend of mine and I just wanted to, both on a personal and professional level, let her know what I was doing and make sure that she was, you know, good with it. And she was," the AP quoted her as saying.

10. Could mean something...maybe he really is considering Hillary
Or it's been in the works that she would be chosen for awhile. Obama does seem like a character who likes to keep his friends close and opponents closer. He wants to be the unifier. A unity ticket does sound exciting but I'm not sure how they handle what was said in the primaries. Perhaps they will just shrug it off that it was just primary talk.
