And check out the McCain camp's lamebrain response. We all expect the MSM to call them on this, right?

Deflating

The Obama campaign gleefully circulated McCain's comment last night that "“Obama said a couple of days ago says we all should inflate our tires. I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it," and McCain's camp pushes back this morning, noting that the candidate continued:

"My friends, let's do that, but do you think that's enough to break our dependence on foreign oil? I don't think so."

The tire gauge argument, however, seemed to depend on mocking Obama's suggestion and insisting that it was all he had to say on gas prices; calling it reasonable but saying it's not enough puts you in more or less the same place as Obama.

1. Obama is very good at systematically taking mcLiar's arguments
apart. Piece by piece. The debates should prove interesting. McLiar will just have to say I agree with Sen. Obama.

2. in 1990, the Washington Times endorsed the tire inflation statement
(and, like Obama, endorsed it as one small part of what each and every one of use could do to conserve gas ...)

3. The "Straight Talk Express" is riding on the rims anyway.
Use the gauge as a rectal thermometer, John.

5. The McCain camp says so much crazy crap every day that Obama
should have a 5 minute monologue everyday, ridiculing the statements (not the candidate, McCain's doing a good enough job of that himself) and then giving a clear statement on the issues.

He's done this the last couple of days, and it's working.

6. McCain puts tire gauge in mouth
McCain puts tire gauge in mouth

John McCain's campaign, the RNC and surrogates spend days mocking Barack Obama as a Carter-esque weakling for touting tire inflation as a way of saving energy and then McCain himself goes and touts the option.

"And could I mention that Senator Obama a couple of days ago said that we ought to all inflate our tires, and I don’t disagree with that.," McCain said on a tele-town hall meeting with Pennsylvania voters last night. "The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it, but I also don't think that that's a way to become energy independent."

The last part withstanding, why would McCain praise the exact thing the entire conservative message machine has spent days ridiculing Obama over?

It underscores the feeling held by many Republicans that he's a tad too intellectually honest for his own good to carry out a mockery campaign against Obama.

Either way, now you know why his campaign is scaling back the candidate's access to the press and trying to install some message discipline.

7. he just talked about it on CNN....just before they cut away. did you see it?
audience got a big kick out of it.

he discussed it in the context of all the contradictions McCain has made, especially in search of the pub nomination

I hope he hits those MYRIAD contradictions, especially the LIES he's told when saying he DIDN'T contradict himself. dunno how he can do that succinctly, but his ads really need to start reflecting that

this was a GOOD start though

YES!
