Kerry made is war record an issue ...
so ... it's okay to lie about him?!

That seems to be the meme from the Bush camp and it's friggin pathetic.

Bush is making an issue of ... ohhh, say ... terrorism, so we should lie about him in this regard?! Gimme a break people!

The fact that the press repeats this shit is astounding. Wait, I guess it's not. :(

Anyone else get tired of this ridiculous talking point?

1. I keep saying the same thing
I am sick of the pubbie moral relativism that says that because Kerry made a big deal out of it, or because someone said something negative about Bush, you can lie. Bush thinks the problem with the ad is how it is funded, not that it is a dispicable lie. Dole basically said that he went after Kerry's record to help Bush. YOu can't support Bush and care about telling the truth. YOu have to believe that whether something is true or not is irrelevant.

2. Yes - this meme is akin to blaming a woman for getting herself raped -
"She made her sexiness the issue by dressing attractively."

6. EXACTLY!
And...had the nerve to bring up those purple hearts, so the other side is in their right to question whether they were deserved?

What utter tripe. The media are the problem.

Did you see Jon Stewart last night, they addressed this very thing directly.

There is opinion and there is fact and there are smears. All are not equal!

Yes it makes me mad as hell.

This everybody has an opinon is =to free speech is bs. Just because you have an opinion does not make it a fact. Does not make it all newsworthy. That's the defninition of a smear. Unsubstantiated opinon masquerading as a reasonable criticism. It's called no merit, no basis in fact. It's called trash.

7. I tuned into Hardball, so I missed the daily show. But I do appreciate
Matthews and Olbermans willingness to call this smear what it is. baseless trash, as you said.

8. Did he make his war record an issue...
BEFORE the repugs started attacking him on it? Remember that horrible diatribe on the floor of Congress, slamming Kerry over Viwt Nam? When did that take place? Seems to me the repugs started in on all this a loooong time ago.

9. Kerry did not make his war record an issue until
the Republicans had the unbelievable nerve to question his ability to be Commander in Chief. And the media helped them do it.

10. I saw some hack on CNN Headline News saying that last night
Something to the effect, "John Kerry made his military service an issue at the convention, so this is what he gets."

Baffling. Absolutely baffling.

12. My brother threw this at me about two weeks ago.
He insisted that using Kerry's record in the war was now a plank in the Democratic platform.

Further, he contended that this lacks consistency since when Clinton ran, Dems thought war records were unimportant.

My doubt that advertising would be part of the platform was treated as smart talk -- the bad kind. And, my thoughts about comparing WWII with Vietnam was like comparing apples to oranges made him return to muttering about the platform.

We hugged days later before he left. If he's still angry he lives with it, not me.

I just hope and pray we can be rid of Bush the liar and divider as soon as possible.

13. Is Kerry's War Record An issue?
Since the Republicans had nothing else to smear him on, of course they had to try to tear down his heroism in contrast to their own cowardice.

14. War records are unimportant but Kerry's biography happens to include one
right?

Tell your brother Bush lacks consistancy b/c Republicans used to believe in balanced budgets too.
