There's no other way to augment U.S. forces sufficiently to carry out his hundred-years wars. Spread the word.

2. Reality is ... he will not.
They said the EXACT same thing about bush 4 years ago and it didn't happen.

No one is reinstating the draft anytime soon and using that as a tactic is a cheap scare tactic, no better than the GOP.

4. because...you say so? We can't win one war at the moment, are fighting two, and McHundred wants war
in Iran and North Korea. Where do those soldiers come from? Hint: the rest of the world ain't gonna help us.

8. Yes, because I say so.
Because this is politics and everyone knows that a draft would absolutely GUARANTEE the party who puts it in gets voted out and will have to deal with violent protests and ugliness for years to come.

It ain't gonna happen and using it as a scare tactic didn't work in 2004 and will work even LESS in 2008.

We actually have REAL ISSUES we can win on without having to make up BS.

5. Don't be so sure. I wouldn't put it past
him at all to do just that. It's going to get to a point where he will simply have no choice, the military is stretched almost as thin as it can get right now and he's determined to not only keep us in Iraq indefinitely but get even MORE wars on! He'll just pull the old fearmongering bullshit and that will be that. He's arrogant and egotistical enough to try to put it through, too. And he probably figures that, once he's in office, what can be done to him? Look at what Bush has been able to get away with without any consequences.

9. I heard the same crap in 2004.
When it was actually more believeable. bush's second term... what does he have to lose.. yadda yadda yadda... McCain will be no more in control of things than bush is now and the reality is that the GOP is run by its corporate doners who want to remain in power at all costs. Starting a draft GUARANTEES they won't be in power.

Do the math.

7. There is no refuge in Canada anymore.
In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country.

6. The question I ask apathetic kids: "You looking forward to going to Iran?"
Gets their attention every time ~ I don't know how many voters I've registered after asking that one question. People don't realize how serious this is.

11. This is ridiculous. Even if McCain wins (unlikely), it will still take a Democratically controlled
House and Senate to pass the legislation need to institute a draft.

The better argument is that McCain can/will call up the NG and the Reserves for a full 5 year mobilization.

12. No child of mine will fight for the oligarchs.
Ever.

My family came here from Ireland via Canada and I am only the second generation born here. If Canada didn't work (much of the family stayed there while the others continued on to Michigan) we'd be off to Ireland. I'd wager many, many others would do likewise. Instituting a draft would result in an exodus of sorts. Between the wing-nut chickenhawks who love war as long as it's not them or theirs fighting it and the people like me there won't be many left.

13. No one wants a draft. There will be no draft.
Congress will not activate one. The military does not want one. The only ones who want it are occasional DU posters that I see. No one else.
