Russia Must Stand Down: FT Op-Ed by Joe Biden

Russia must stand down

Despite Russia’s overwhelming advantage in size and firepower in its conflict with Georgia, the Kremlin may have the most to lose if the fighting there continues. It is too soon to know with certainty who was responsible for the initial outbreak of violence in South Ossetia, but the war that began there is no longer about Georgia’s breakaway regions or Russian peacekeepers.

By acting disproportionately with a full scale attack on Georgia and seeking the ouster of Georgia’s democratically elected President Mikheil Saakashvili, Moscow is jeopardising its standing in Europe and the broader international community – and risking very real practical and political consequences. 1. Contrast Biden's opinion that Russia needs to step back and NEGOTIATE
with Georgia, to Bushco's THREATS.

This is an informative statement and gives a little history of the region, which I found interesting. (And he didn't pull the info from Wikipedia.)

Biden for SOS!

I want Biden or Richardson. We need someone experienced who actually believes in diplomacy.

7. The beauty about Biden and Richardson,
is that they've actually met with many of these world players. They KNOW them. And I'm assuming, they're both well respected. I remember when both Bhutto and Musharraf spoke with Biden before they talked to Rice or Bush.

12. Excellent piece by Biden.
He has been talking about US/Russia relations for most of the year.

It makes you wonder if he was SoS, if he would have been able to calm some of the tensions before this happened.

16. Bidens Wisdom is something that has been missing in the WH for many years
I don't want to lose him in the Senate, but I think he would make a perfect SOS.
