Is it possible that Obama could surprise everyone with his VP pick? |
|
We have all been hearing endless speculation of who the VP would be for months now, but we are only a couple weeks from the convention and we still haven't been able to get any really good clues of who the VP pick is. We keep hearing the same names over and over again but is it possible that Obama could be planning to shock everyone?
There are a lot of very experienced and compelling people out in the real world. Obama has continually stressed that this is an election about change, is it possible that he just may consider choosing someone who has never run for elected office before?
It may seem risky, but if just the right person were found it could be a truly brilliant move. It would have to be someone who has made enormous accomplishments and has a very compelling personal story, and most importantly it would have to be someone with a very extensive knowledge of government and world affairs.
Such a move would shock the world, but no doubt in a country of 300 million people there are certainly many excellent selections that no one would ever guess. I think Americans would love to vote for a person who has never been in Washington before, just give them a person that they can relate to and respect and I think they would react very favorably.
I don't know if this could ever happen, but if anyone would consider making such a move I think it would be Obama. Does anyone else think this would be a good idea, or am I alone in this?

Under the Twelfth Amendment, each elector must cast distinct votes for President and Vice President, instead of two votes for President. No elector may cast votes for Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates who both inhabit the same state as that elector (Habitation Clause). It is, however, possible for an elector to cast to vote for one candidate that is from the same state as that elector.

She had been a very vocal Hillary supporter. Shortly after the primary, she seemed pretty insistent that Hillary be Obama's vp.

Though, to her credit, she has never made any bones about the fact that she is on an extended quest to do exactly that.
Fortunately for Kathy, her plastic surgeons are obviously a whole lot better at their art than Joe Lieberman's were.

He needs to go through the phone book and find someone named "Ronald Reagan."
That will confuse enough right-wingers into voting for him, where as we Liberals are smart enough to be in on the joke and vote for him intentionally.

62. They always vote against Jesus. If he taught it |
|
or preached it they vote against it. (Jesus was pretty big on tending to children and sick and elderly....on forgiveness, on judging not, on loving one another...on the good Samaritan thing and who our neighbor is) They are the group who says "What would Jesus do" and then do/vote the opposite.
They like his dad who smites a lot and declares abominations. (Stay real. Well they don't agree with all the abominations, just the ones that make gay men sound bad. Forget that marrying a divorced woman, sex during a woman's menstrual period or touching anything she's touched (be sure and ask your waitress),cursing your parents, using dishonest weights, the shedding of blood, lying and stealing, women who wear pants, scoffing, gossiping, pride, not caring about the poor and needy and so on are also abominations or that individuals or nations corrupt business practices are mentioned as abominations more times than any sexual abominations. The ones they disagree with are silly and don't count. But oh those gays!)

He pleaded guilty to heroin possession back in 1983, so unfortunately his name will never be considered for a place on any Presidential ticket. I would love to see him get appointed to a cabinet position though.

22. It is pretty amazing some of the people who have gotten elected or selected to office... |
|
There have been some pretty disgusting people in power throughout the years, and I am shocked at the type of candidates that people vote for sometimes.
But while a lot of crap candidates can get elected, a good candidate like Kennedy can't because of something that happened 25 years ago. I don't think someone who was arrested for heroin possession could ever get elected President no matter how good of a candidate he is.
He would be great in a cabinet position though.

15. I know we all dream of someone for the Presidency & the VP being |
|
someone not associated with politics or DC or party affiliation, but I don't think it will ever happen. I'll never forget the most recent interview I saw with Lee Iococca. The host asked him if he had really considered running for President way back when he had just rescued Chrysler and people were talking about that. He answered, "Yes I did, but I talked to a close friend of mine (It was a sitting senator but I forget who). We had lunch together and I asked what he thought about me running. He said NO!!!! You would never be able to handle it. You'd either quit after 3-4 months or die in office of a heart attack! You are not used to people ignoring your requests or demands. You are simply NOT a politician. Let it alone!"
That resonated with me. I think you have to have a special personality to live and work in DC. Few laymen do.

17. Well I don't think the person he would choose would be a layman... |
|
If he would do something like this it would have to be someone who has made some truly extraordinary accomplishments, and it would have to be someone who has had to deal with the public.
You may well be right that such a thing will never happen, but the reason for that is not because there aren't plentiful good choices in the real world but rather because the Washington insiders won't allow it to happen.

something to me? Do you think Obama would pick Clark after seeing the faux outrage in the media at his statements about McCain? Don't you think that's all the media would be focusing on after a Clark pick? The Republicans would be screaming about him "disrespecting military service" for the rest of the election and of course the media would oblige them.
