Under McCain, I can't afford Health Insurance.
I just did the math. Currently, I get insurance through my employer and pay $954 a year for PPO2. Dental, and Vision combined. That's a great rate, because I get a Group Discount through my employer. Under McCain's plan, I will either pay more taxes or - more likely - my company will stop offering group health insurance and I will have to buy it individually. Which also means I will lose the Group Discount.

OK, so, under McCain I save $954 and he will give me a $5k annual tax rebate to pay for my individual insurance. But, wait. Private insurance will cost me over $13k a year! That's an additional $7k I have to pay each year, which I don't have. Plus, I have hypertension which is a "pre-existing" condition and the new insurance won't cover! That's roughly $80 a month extra for my prescription or $960 a year. Not including my "existing" cholesterol medications will add another $1k a year.

OK, maybe I'm over-estimating with my meds, but even if those were the same I would be paying an extra $7k a year, and I simply can't afford that. I have 2 choices; I can go bankrupt, or I can game the system.

Since I can't afford to see the doctor for regular check-ups and preventative medicine, I have no choice but to wait until the very last minute and go to the Emergency Room. You see, I don't have to pay for the Emergency Room, but the cost will be spread out among all you rich assholes. It would have been a lot cheaper on everyone if I could have afforded insurance and gotten the problem fixed early. But now it may be too late and I may lose my life, but in any case it will be expensive cost all of you rich mofos more than if I had been able to afford to come in and get the problem fixed early.

Although I have to admit, that's not much of a final thought. As I am lying there taking my last breath because of a problem that could have been fixed if I had been able to afford regular doctor visits, sitting there thinking "well, at least I'll be responsible for making health care more expensive for the rich people" isn't exactly my idea of the last thoughts I want before I "Pass On".

Please, God or Jehovah or Allah or the Universe or Whoever - let Obama win so I can afford to Live!

1. So, what's your problem? At least Cindy gets to go to the ER when someone shakes her hand too hard.
Get your priorities straight. :sarcasm:

2. Prepare for hard times
We only be able to afford much of anything under McCain. Wages will remain the same and the cost of living will go up like it has for nearly 8 years now. But millions of Americans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief because they avoided the risks that having a black man as president might bring.

6. about pre-existing conditions
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 09:51 AM by Kire
as long as there is no interruption of service (of more than a certain amount, 90 days or so, it might vary), the pre-existing condition wasn't a problem when I switched to private insurance a few years ago.

they're pretty scary, but I hope this helps allieve a tiny bit of anxiety
