Now I feel MUCH better/superdelegates update
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 02:58 PM by truthN08
So of the 796 superdelegates 510 are supporting Obama. There are 242 superdelegates for Senator Clinton and 67 uncommitted.

In order for Senator Clinton to take the nomination she would have to get all 67 uncomitted supers PLUS 202 of Obama's supers would have to leave him for her to win. THAT won't happen unless Obama implodes and there is some serious scandal. So I feel so much better. I just hope after all is said and done everyone at the convention comes together.

1. There's no way in hell that Clinton wants to steal teh nomination at the convention
She just wants the appearance of division, IMO.

Read. My. Sig.

2. Maybe I'm just naive
But I just think Obama is so great that even if anyone tried to ruin the convention he would have some plan on how to pull off a win in November regardless. I mean he weathered the primaries. I think it's our time and Obama is just the person that can do it.

Again I'm probably naive but it's what I'm hoping for.

3. My main question is WHY?
What purpose does this serve other than to stroke an already massive ego, get PUMA's hopes up, and show all the undecided voters out there that we are not a party united?

The PUMA types are going to be just as mad after she loses the roll-call vote as they are now! Conveniently they will all be in Denver holding protests and parades outside. Do you think they need to be incited by losing ANOTHER vote?

She's already getting a primetime speaking slot. She's getting her own video tribute. Why do we have to do a roll-call vote? It just seems PETTY and DIVISIVE.

I've been pretty irate about this today. Not because I think she could actually pull off a trick like that... but because it's clearly not in our nominee's best interests. It's clearly all about HRC... as it always seems to be with her.

4. If Obama thought that this was not in his best interests, he would not have agreed to it.
This is not some kind of consolation prize. This is being done in the interest of party unity which will benefit Obama in the end. Both Obama and Clinton were historic candidates for the Democratic party. Recognizing Clinton's campaign can do no harm to Obama, but it will go a long way towards party unity, which we are going to need to insure a Democratic victory this fall.

6. You are right, gran
This decision is coming from a position of strength.

If there were any danger to Obama in it, he wouldn't have agreed.

He's not reputed to be a big risk-taker.

8. How exactly does putting up another fight incite unity?
Espeically when you have a psychotic hate group like the PUMA's who will feed off of it. She will not get the votes (again) and it could very well perpetuate them even further.

In another sense she can't be blamed for taking advantage of a system when it's designed for this purpose. IMO the whole thing needs an overhaul.

9. There won't be a fight at the convention. Everyone understands what is going on.
As far as the PUMAs are concerned, I am sick to death of hearing about them. They are but a very small holdout group that has no influence on the final decisions. They can make some noise if they want to and attract some attention, but they are not to be taken seriously. To do so gives them more legitimacy than they deserve. Most of Hillary's supporters are now supporting Obama, as she has asked them to.

5. There's no way she's going to "win"
But I do wonder why she is forcing us to go through these motions. If she wanted a wake and funeral service for her campaign, she should have done it months ago.

7. You do know he's won, right?
Clinton has zero chance and zero desire to steal the nomination at the convention, despite Maureen Dowd's lies and fantasies. Remember, the ones selling the "Clinton will try to steal this" are the same people who sold the "Gore invented the Internet" crap.

Democrats are smarter. See past the media's attempts to divide the party. They are just working for McCain.
