Do you ever come to DU hoping to get away from the negativity of the media...

only to find negativity here, too? We have people on both sides who can't get it thru their heads that the primaries are over. You come looking for positive posts but those usually disappear below the posts which highlight the infighting that still continues on DU-politics. We get some posts which are downright negative about our nominee (IS OBAMA MORE LIKE STENY HOYER THAN JFK)or you get the postings of negative newspaper articles about Obama, again rarely anything positive. Then always the concern "why does Obama have to be on vacation", "why isnt' he doing better" about each and every little poll which might have him down in some state even tho he contiues to lead most polls and is doing well in states that for many years no Democrat could compete in.

Then we have the continued conspiracy theories involving the Clintons who are egomaniacs and trying to take the convention over without understanding that as the first woman who has gone as far as she has Hillary has a right to have her name placed into nomination like many candidates before her who were not nominated. "Oh, those Clinton's have two nights!" Well, Hillary came close to being nominated and deserves a spot and Bill is a former Democratic president. If Hillary wants Chelsea to introduce her what's the big deal? Obama and his running mate will still get most of the attention and Obama's speech will be outdoors in front of many thousands--and will be electric! and that is what most people will remember.

Can't we try to get along and make this a place that is more upbeat and positive towards each other and our nominee?

5. Thick skin helps
I get attacked here a lot.

I don't think I've ever flagged a thread or run to the mods over it. I usually just laugh cause most of it I think is really funny.

Folks have strong opinions and sometimes take what goes on on these boards too seriously. Nothing posted here is going to change the world or effect the election in any way. Folks need to keep that in perspective.

6. I understand, but my point is that we could afford to be more positive on this site

It's not like Obama hasn't a chance to win. He leads most polls and in many diverse states, but yet it's like coming onto the site of a candidate who is behind 20 points with infighting and ?'s of why the candidate isn't doing better.

7. What are the attacks over?
I always say issues are fair game.

Folks sometimes want to air their grievances and argue about candidates from a liberal or leftist perspective. Something they don't get from the MSM. Doesn't mean they aren't going to vote or support the nominee. If anything, they want to keep a skeptical eye on a politician.

That's how we should look at all our leaders. Even the ones we support. We differ from Republicans in that even if a candidate claims to support their ideals theyt will agree with him/her even when they are leading em off a cliff.

I don't fully trust the candidates I've supported.

THat's smart.

8. I think that is fine. But if you can't see all the attacks on Obama and Hillary
that happen every day and the resurrection of the primary wars then I guess I must be overstating that, but that is my perception. My chief feeling is I watch the media and get a low about the campaign (usually) and then come over to DU and come out of the experience with low morale about how things are going based on all the fighting here. It makes you think that it must be true what the media is trying to say that the party isn't united.

10. Maybe I'm fortunate
The Hillary supporters and the Obama supporters have always been kind to me on this site.

Even when I voice policy dissagreements I haven't had a drag out argument or flame war with them.

As far as this party being united; it never really has been or ever will be. It's basicly a group of people with many different ideas that come together. It's basicly full of people that aren't hard right neo cons. With that, people clash.

Sometimes folks take it too far and need to get some perspective on life. THe real political battles are not fought on this board.

THat happens in the real world

3. THe issues should be bigger than the candidates
That whats most important. Some are just the bottom of the barrel and I think there are a lot of folks that are just sick of em. On abortion this party has moved so far to the right that it's gotten scary.

I don't take what goes on here all that seriously. I mostly observe most of it and just laugh.

A lot of us come here to debate stuff from a leftist perspective. That's our escape. Maybe even enjoy ourselves and blow off steam.

Apparantly that's becoming impossible these days.

4. We only have one candidate.
The plural is no longer appropriate.

That being said, could we be doing a better job of coming together to elect Barack Obama? Sure.
