Will Convention Speeches be "Vetted"?
If I were Obama, I would not let one speaker on the platform whose speech isn't submitted to Obama and approved and put on the telepromter by his own staff. The media will take a 45 minute endless speech from, oh say, Bill, and look for any two combinations of words that they can turn into a negative "feeding fenzy". They are going to go shove a camera in the face of anyone mumbling about Obama and make it into "major rift in party" routine anyway and there certainly will be a gaggle of people in the crowd who are just dying to get their moment on camera. If any impression other than "Obama, Obama, Obama" comes out of that convention, we can all start humming "Hail to McCain". We need no double talk, hidden code words, or lack luster tone (like only mentioning Obama once in the speech)! Obama must make sure that everyone is on a leash.

1. I certainly hope so.
I'm a bit worried about Bill Clinton going off script and wagging his finger at everyone.

2. There's not much practical point to it. The Doors are an example why.

3. I would hope they look over the speech drafts, at the very least.
And be ready to turn off the mic (oops, technical difficulties) if someone veers into bad territory. I would advise this no matter WHO was being nominated, frankly--it's vital that Dems keep to a tight, disciplined message when the nation is watching.

4. All the same
I hope that we don't end up in a situation like the 2004 DNC where, from what I've heard, all speeches were meticulously scrubbed of almost all "criticism" of Bush/Cheney/GOP they might have had apparently because we didn't want to be seen as having "nothing but hate". We certainly don't want nor need any 1992 Pat Buchanan-esque speeches at OUR convention but we DO need a bunch of hard-hitting but honest speeches about why our country does NOT need somebody like McSame, who unabashedly plans to continue the same failed Bush/Cheney policies, as POTUS and how we can all prosper with new (and better) leadership at our helm.

7. I was going to mention this
It's true that the speeches were scrubbed of all criticism of Bush. Al Sharpton was the only one that deviated from his prepared speech. He was very critical of Bush.

5. I hope not...
That sounds too repuke like.

Speeches should be looked over for major surprises and concerns about them addressed, but other than that...let the speakers say what they want.

6. Oh, I'm in favor or "whatever they want"
They can rip Bush, McCain the repukes a new one. They can offer visions of what Dems can offer, etc. BUT, we cannot have something equivalent to "he meets the technical qualifications of being president" thing come out of anyone's mouth. And it cannot BE about anyone else but Obama. Meaning it cannot be a long laundry list of "how great I am"! The "big tent" needs a big tarp in can drop on anyone who is not there to 100% promote Obama and the Dem cause, period!

9. It'll be like the last convention...
About Obama and all that. No one is going to be that stupid.

8. Aren't They Always?
Or at least the gist of them, I'd expect.
