Pohlad ponying up $$$ for Obama
Okay. This kinda pissed me off (the words abject+imbalance come to mind) ... and it may piss you off, too. For that, I apologize in advance. I offer up the following only for news' sake.

Pohlad ponying up $$$ for Obama

By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune

Last update: August 15, 2008 - 4:03 PM

Among America's sports owners, Carl Pohlad and his clan are in the decided minority when it comes fueling the flow of money to the two remaining presidential candidates.

Through the end of June, team owners in the four major pro sports and their families have given to or raised more than $3.2 million for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, compared with $615,000 for Democratic rival Barack Obama.

That's according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission data, the campaigns and interviews by the Capitol Hill newspaper Politico.

Pohlad, the banker, investor and Twins owner, and his family have contributed or bundled as much as $217,000 for Obama, Politico reported.

3. This whole thing:
"Through the end of June, team owners in the four major pro sports and their families have given to or raised more than $3.2 million for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, compared with $615,000 for Democratic rival Barack Obama."

And HIGH-FIVE on putting the smack-down on Corsi! :applause: :yourock:

6. Jerry Reinsdorf has a weird record
2300 to Obama. He and his wife both max out for McCain...and then try giving even more, forcing the McCain campaign to return some of the loot.

Gave to politicians as varied as Arlen Specter, Ray LaHood, Carl Levin, Dick Durbin.

Can't seem to make up his damned mind.

8. Nothing strange about that for Reinsdorf
That's how he approaches most things, rather than ideologically, by spreading out his risk so far that he wins no matter who wins. I'm fairly certain that if baseball would let him, he'd sell the White Sox to buy shares of about 15 different teams just so the bastard could win the WS every year.

9. The Red Sox owners are Democrats
The Kraft family, owners of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, spread the money around. In this cycle, they've given quite a bit to McCain, but also donated $15,000 to the DCCC.

Red Sox co-owner Tom Werner is a big Democrat. He has donated to Obama, Edwards, Biden, Dodd, Daschle, and others. He also appeared at campaign events with John Kerry in 2004, including a baseball-themed event at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. Team president Larry Lucchino has a history of giving money to Democrats, and general manager Theo Epstein is an Obama supporter.

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck is not a big contributor, but he did give some money to Mitt Romney and to the DNC.

Bruins owner Jeremy F*****g Jacobs gives mainly to Republicans, although he has made contributions to Democrats from time to time.
