I hate to say this, but I think it's gonna be... |
|
BIDEN or Hillary.
Obama camp trying to play it safe. I love Clark, but I think it's gonna be Biden.
Not Bayh because a Republican governor will replace him/
Not Kaine because a Repuke would replace him.
Not Clark because the Obama camp might feel that Clark's statements about McCain disqualified him and because he has never been elected to office.
If Hillary, she, Bill, Chelsea, and the Obama family will make the announcement from HOPE, Arkansas.
If Biden, the announcement will be made from D.C.
I hope Clark is still in the mix however.
I'm going bonkers, y'all. :o

1. I'd love to see Clark as VP |
|
I'm less sure I'd like for him to be CANDIDATE for VP, as his competence is of a quiet self-assured type that doesn't translate well into 30 second sound bytes. Biden is better at that, and so is Hillary. Even so, Clark's experience negates McCain's whole military propaganda thing, and comparisons between the two will REALLY make McCain look piss poor. I don't see much how we could do badly with any of the three of them. Biden thinks very quickly on his feet, and is great on TV--not exactly eminent qualification for the presidency or vice-presidency in itself, but then who said Bush, Cheney or McCain were qualified?

2. I don't know who it will be either but it is very doubtful it will be... |
|
Hillary, imo. One big reason is Bill. If Hillary is VP, the media will be totally focused on who is the REAL President, Obama or Bill, and that will be the question for every major decision made by Obama. Hillary won't be in their radar much, Bill will.
Obama and his campaign know this and they aren't going to risk that happening, again, imo.

12. I doubt that it will be Hillary as well, |
|
but for a very different reason. This country remains, in many ways, a racist and sexist country. With an African American and a woman on the same ticket, the noise of exploding heads across the country will make it almost impossible to hear anything else.

13. That as well, unfortunately |
|
There are certainly more reasons than the one I stated in my post including the one you raise. Having a black man and a woman on this ticket would be too big a risk. I look forward to the day when a ticket like that would cause nary a raised eyebrow but I don't see that day coming in the near future, again, sadly.
Each barrier must be broken separately. It looks to be first a black man is elected President and the next will be the first woman President. It could have been the reverse but it is what it is.
I just want all the barriers broken and each person taken on "the content of their character".

3. If Clark's statements about McCain disqualified him, then |

Hillary's statements about McCain, not to mention a few other quotables, should have dropped a tactical nuke on her chances.
"Hope" you're wrong about that guess.

4. I'm predicting Jack Reed or Evan Bayh. Obama is a pragmatist. |
|
Hillary would be too much drama for him, although if he feels she would be loyal and take a back seat and keep Bill on a leash, he might consider her. Biden would get on his nerves, I'll bet, and wouldn't follow orders--too much potential for conflict. Kaine would be a faithful sidekick, but is just too inexperienced. Two guys who WOULD take a back seat, follow orders, and wouldn't make gaffes are Bayh and Reed. Yeah, they may get replaced by Repubs (although in Bayh's case, that's IF Indiana elects the Repub Gov again), but I don't think the Dem Party powers-that-be are going to tell Obama "no" on his choice just because of the potential to lose one seat.

I think it's gonna be Biden, Clark for SecDef, and HRC will go back to the Senate.
But I don't give a damn.

10. I hope it is Clark. I just don't know what to think anymore. |
|
One minute I'm positive it's Clark and the next minute, I know it's Biden. Then I switch to Kaine, but then I think about how we're trying to maintain Dem offices and not give Repukes freebies, and then I start looking back at picks like Clark.
Maybe Gephardt?
Maybe Webb, despite what he has said?
Maybe Nelson or Grahm of FL?
Who knows at this point. I'll give the Obama camp it's due. They have kept this thing under wraps.

15. My only objection to Biden--taking a known Senator out of the Senate |
|
I don't know Delaware's rules for replacing Biden should Obama win (named by gov? runoff election?) but there's always some potential for trouble/disruption when you pull a Senator out of the Senate.
Beyond that, Biden would be a terrific campaigner, and cut any Veep McCain throws at him to ribbons.
I was very, very impressed with Biden on the campaign trail and in the debates during the primary race. I used to feel very differently about him, but he turned me around.
(But his vote on the bankruptcy bill is still shameful.)

like Clark, but in the end I would prefer Clinton over Biden.
I would also prefer Clark over Clinton, I would prefer Dennis Kucinitch as well, but that won't happen.

17. I want to be able to vote for Obama, but can't if it is Biden. |
|
Why Obama would choose someone who voted for the war and lied to America in his IWR floor speech
"Mr. President, I will vote for the Lieberman-Warner amendment to authorize the use of military force against Iraq . And unlike my colleagues from West Virginia and Maryland, I do not believe this is a rush to war. I believe it is a march to peace and security. "
"Saddam is dangerous. The world would be a better place without him. But the reason he poses a growing danger to the United States and its allies is that he possesses chemical and biological weapons and is seeking nuclear weapons"
He even named Iraq a THREAT to the US? "This resolution authorizes the President to use force to defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq"
A threat? Even if the easily debunked WMD claims were true.. a THREAT? What was he going to do, invent the world's largest slingshot?
This idiot refused to consider the actual evidence available showing Iraq had no WMD... did he mention the fact that a previous weapon's inspector had come out and flatly stated the weapons didn't exist? No, why waste any time on facts when you know how the wind is blowing.
He goes on and on in his speech to try and explain how the resolution doesn't say what it really says.

his term is up in 2009 either way, and he's a governor, not a Senator.

20. I don't see how that's relevant |
|
So why should Kaine leave the Governor's Mansion and give Bill Bolling (Virginia's Republican Lt. Gov.) the gift of instant incumbency for the next gubernatorial election?
It would make more sense for Kaine to finish out his term as Governor, then run against Eric Cantor for the U.S. House in 2010.
