I hope Obama doesn't announce his running mate 'til the Convention... |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 12:30 PM by jenmito
That way, McCain will have to sweat all the way 'til then. And you KNOW McCain wants to base his choice on OBAMA'S choice, since everything McCain DOES seems to be in reaction to Obama. Also, if he waits, that will turn the media's focus more on the VP speculation than the Clintons. Just my opinion, of course.

1. the other thing is more non-political-junkie people might tune in |
|
and when it comes to viewing the candidates and hearing them speak, we have a BIG advantage.

2. I think that will be the best way to handle it too... |
|
...the Olympics, the Corsi book, McCain's stupid ads will all be trumped by the vp selection - might as well do it while everyone is watching.

3. IMO he should do it before the convention. |
|
It is critical that Obama stake a claim vis a vis the ticket beforehand to cut off any efforts to force you-know-who on the ticket at the convention. And, yes, there is chatter. Since some factions continue to withhold respect for the nominee, Obama needs (IMO - I'm backseat driving!) to leave nothing to chance.

4. My only problem with that is |
|
they encouraged his supporters to provide cell phone numbers so they would be the first to know.
I too think the vp announcement at the convention would add a lot of intrigue, but worry some might complain he did not live up to his commitment. Either way, I am behind his decision.

5. My argument against that is the delegates need a heads up so they can |
|
have time to digest and adjust. It's almost like putting them on the spot if he springs it at the convention. I'd hate to see cameras panning the audience of people with "Is he fucking NUTS?" looks on their faces.
Go into the convention knowing who's on the ticket.

8. Signage - They Gots to Make Signs |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 03:14 PM by otohara
and so for that reason, it would get leaked - so I don't think he will wait until convention.
I asked the other day at Obama HQ in Denver and the reason there are no signs is because of VP - they don't want to print anymore until then.

9. I hope he announces before, |
|
Gives everyone a chance to adjust, no matter who he chooses. Also lets people prepare for the VP rally, get the signage together... etc
