It was a reasonable question. A forum like this is likely to include a question about the Supreme Court. McCain wanted to talk about the SC, and he was asking if he should get into those comments now, or if he should wait for a question specifically about the SC. The fact that he asked suggests that he wasn't sure if there would be a question like that.

People here want everything to be a conspiracy, but this particular comment didn't strike me as odd at all.
