The EVIL question - did I hear Warren correctly?
When McCain was asked about what we should do about evil, Warren used a series of verbs in which to choose. One verb was ' to contain', as in "do we contain it?" (McCain answered, "Defeat it")

Tell me if I'm wrong, but when Warren asked Obama, he used the verb ' to confront' along with the series of other verbs. (Obama answered, "Confront it")

So my question is: Did Warren use 'confront' and 'contain' interchangeably in his 'evil' question to these men? If he did, to the listener's ear, it could have given McCain's 'defeat' evil over 'confront' evil an edge, especially to those who still buy into the fear mantra.

Also, in the faith based question - Warren gave McCain a heads up on a '60s law, whereas Obama cited the law in his answer. That was another unfair advantage I found in this forum, as well as letting McCain get away with giving stump answers, when Obama was reminded against doing so.

Personally, I thought McCain thought he could run the show and Warren was just stage his dressing.

1. My mistake was thinking he was the vegetable I saw in the supermarket.
He isn't. The guy is slick, but greasy slick. And arrogant. He was very comfortable and yes, it did appear as if he was kicking his feet up on Warren's desk, so to speak, and running the show.

2. evil will never be 'defeated' anymore than a 'war on terror' will be 'won'
It's like saying that there will be no 'night' in our 'day'.

Not something that will ever be 'defeated' by humans anyhow.

IMO-

But was Obama & McCain asked the same question?
I agree with you. Anyone in their right mind knows you can't defeat evil, so I don't know why all those people were clapping at his answer.

3. I honestly don't know for sure, but I do remember hearing McNut saying
"Defeat IT" and my screaming response to the TV was "YOU CAN'T!" Noone can defeat all evil! Then of course he further defined it as al Qaida! IMO he completely ignored all the evils in the world, and that it has always existed and always will!

4. i guess the question isn't how WE saw this, it's how wavering moderates saw it.
I thought Obama answered thoughtfully and well. I thought McCain joked and gave sound bites.

I think Obama came off much better, especially considering McCain seemed to know the questions in advance. Hopefully there are enough people watching who saw it the same way.

5. I object to the entire evil meme, actually.

It just veers too close to talking about a red guy with a forked tail and a pitchfork.

9. I liked how Obama said we have to be careful that we don't
do evil ourselves in order to fight it.

12. I did too, and the Bush* admin certainly has done
plenty of evil in our name.

I appreciated his thoughtful answer.

6. McCain should be slammed on this.
Bush made the same mistake when he claimed he could win the war on terror

McCain needs to detail how he plans to defeat evil, that is wipe it off the face of the earth.

7. your second example is wrong
don't know about your first. Warren stated the law in both questions.

13. It depends on what your definition of Evil is...
evil is subjective to most people.

"I'll know evil when it rears it's ugly head..."

So it's a ridicualous question posed by a ridiculous person. I'm sorry I missed this whole dog and pony show. Now I know RW is just another Right Wing preacher who has no interest in any POV that differs from his own POV.

14. One difference I noticed in the posing of the questions
was that warren used the word "flip flopped" for Obama (who said, "oh, have a change of mind?") and did not mention it when he asked mccain. Moral: democrats flip-flop, repubs don't.

15. He used contain for both
They just replayed it on CNN where they replayed the question to both Obama and McCain and he asked it the same to both. He used the same terms to both.
