What do you think? Edwards is being trashed now to link him later to Kerry if he is our VP. |
|
I can't think of anything else but to trash Kerry later if he is VP. Edwards was definitely hunted for evidence of his affair and MSM is not letting story to die.

John Edwards to have an affair and then try to pay the woman off. He did that all on his own.

Edwards had absolutely no legislative record fighting corruption. Others do - especially John Kerry.
The media went for it because a top politician was caught in a tawdry affair. Throw in that his wife was widely loved and people, even many who would never have voted for her husband, were impressed with the courage she showed facing an awful diagnosis. Sex and melodrama play - and this story has both. Then you throw in possible misuse of campaign funds. (This is the guy you still buy would have been an awesome AG ??

They figure Edwards's actions make McCain's seem not so bad.

would have an affair TWO years after he picked him? This was EDWARDS' lack of judgment. Kerry should have gone with his gut and not taken edwards - even though Edwards was the party and media favorite.

12. What is this, Science Fiction Night at the old Screeching Ward? |
|
Hokely Smokely.
People are hammering on Edwards because he was supposed to be squeaky clean in his married life and now that's been shown false. Those who didn't trust him or had bones to pick jumped out to dance the dance of the vindicated. To a certain degree, he got hammered harder than others might have been because the right has always seen him as dangerous, but the simple truth is this: people LOVE a sex scandal.
How this tracks to Kerry is beyond me.

I think the Edwards issue is bad for McCain. Every time Edwards' affair is talked about, it brings up McCain's multiple counts of adultery in people's heads. It makes Barack Obama look so much better in contrast.

18. Edwards is being trashed because of what he did |
|
It was a story because it completely challenged people's views of who he really is. His strong marriage was at the core of his public persona - and many people were for him, in spite of doubts, because of Elizabeth. They determined that a woman like Elizabeth would not have married a phony. The other thing it challenged was that Edwards was honest - Edwards has said many things with the same wide blue eyed innocence that were not true. It bothered me on political things where he completely rewrote history. For many, this is the first time they've seen it.
As to Kerry, he could not have known in 2004 that Elizabeth Edwards, who Teresa was said to like, would get cancer in 2004 and that Edwards would have a long term affair in 2006 - and lie about it. Kerry took great pains to say nothing about Edwards in 2006 through 2008 - but, as he said positive things about Clinton, Obama, Dodd and Biden - the omission spoke volumes. It lent credibility to Shrum's comment that Kerry had misgivings before selecting him (though Kerry was obviously being pushed by people from Clinton to Kennedy to select him because he polled well) and that Kerry regretted picking him. There was no way that Kerry could have forseen that Edwards' narcissism would make him completely unwilling to do what the campaign wanted.
In fact, it would be interesting to imagine a Kerry/Gore conversation on who picked the worse VP. Neither Gore or Kerry are responsible for what these men became.

Obama's pick. They did such an effective hatchet job on him last time that they're probably licking their chops at the thought.
As for Edwards, he deserves everything he's getting and then some. I hope Elizabeth divorces that piece of shit and takes him to the cleaners. To think he was my first choice in 2004 - I could just throw up.

24. I doubt the RW is praying for Kerry as VP |
|
The right wing, with media assistance did attack Kerry more than anyone else, but even by November 2004 - they had not succeeded all that well - Kerry still would have won if there were enough voting machines in Ohio. Since then, on national security - the issue Bush "won on", Kerry was vindicated when conservatives like George Will conceded he was right in 2006 and recently when Gates' recommendations read like Kerry wrote them in 2004.
The word "swiftboating" means despicable lies to the majority of the country - even Republicans have used the word to mean that - often when they face valid criticism. The other impression people had of Kerry 2004, was that he was a thoughtful intelligent man who ran a high road campaign and was brilliant in the debates.

The media did such an amazing hatchet job on him that his crushing Bush in three debates didn't even register. I don't think George Will's column will get a whole lot of focus, either, given that the goal is to destroy him rather than support him.
Not only is he a proven target, but most of the work was done years ago. All they have to do is dig up what they've saved in Microsoft Word and then create a few new pieces of bullshit to cover the last four years.
Look how much mileage they managed to get out of "I voted for the $82 billion before I voted against it," not even letting the context in.
I'm betting they're mustering up every ounce of religion in their bones and praying that Kerry gets the nod.

They are now reporting it because Edwards himself was forced to come forward because he was caught leaving the hotel where his mistress was staying with her (their?) baby just three weeks ago.
