"Are we gonna get back to the issue of Supreme Court justices?" |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 11:52 AM by marylanddem
I forced myself to watch the C-span clip & there it is - proof that McCain knew that there would be a question about Supreme Court justices. Though there had been NO MENTION of Supreme Court justices up to that point, McCain asked "Are we gonna get back to the issue of Supreme Court justices?" "Getting back" clearly indicated he had been listening to Obama. No "cone of silence," what bullshit.

It is expected that any question about abortion and/or same sex marriage in a religious setting will come back to supreme court justices. Did you sleep through 2000 and 2004? His response doesn't suggest that he's going to answer the actual SC question, just that he wanted to talk about it in the context of that question.

I disagree that it is "expected" that a question about Supreme Court justices will follow. "Get back" was a clear reference to the previous interview. Sorry, but that lipstick just won't stay on that pig.

5. Watching any debate, particularly the repub debates |
|
from 2000, 2004, or 2008, the issues were always linked. Questions about abortion and same sex marriage were usually asked in the context of the supreme court and "legislating from the bench". Questions about the supreme court were asked in the context of Roe v. Wade and sanctity of marriage. None of the questions asked in this forum were original, and for someone who has been through as many presidential debates and town halls as McCain, it is not surprising that his responses seemed much more prepared than Obama's.
Read some transcripts of similar questions from the debates from 2000. McCain's answers are essentially the same.
