Rick Warren just proved he KNEW McCain WAS NOT THERE YET when he said he's in the "cone of silence"
On LKL just now, he said that he gave Obama a "heads up" about a question he was going to ask for a commitment on, and MCCAIN WASN'T THERE so he couldn't tell HIM. In trying to prove Obama had an advantage rather than a disadvantage, he just gave himself away as a liar.

4. Exactly. I hope someone makes a video of him saying this next to his statement right before
the show.

5. He assumed McCain was in the room when he said it
He didn't find out until afterwards that he wasn't.

7. No he didn't. He just said he couldn't give McCain the "heads up" to the question because
he WASN'T THERE. If he assumed he was in the room, he would've gone to the room to give HIM the "heads up," too.

6. This thread is especially for the poster who was going back and forth with me last night,
arguing that s/he seriously doubted Warren KNEW McCain wasn't there before he made the statement about McCain being placed in the "cone of silence."

12. How did the gag go? I just don't get why

he said it in the first place.

Did his audience make up a large portion of the GET SMART audience?

I never watched the show.

16. 'Get Smart' Had a Lot of Wacky Spy Inventions
like the shoe phone, some of which didn't work very well. The 'cone of silence' was a sort of transparent range hood that descended over the director's desk when a conversation was supposed to be extremely sensitive. The joke was that the people inside the cone couldn't hear anything, so they ended up shouting at each other until people in the next room could overhear the conversation.

It was funny, and became one of those things that took on a life of its own.

14. Of course he lied, there is no question about it
The media undoubtedly is aware that the good Pastor lied, but his "truthiness" will never be publicly questioned since he is afterall, a Pastor....and Pastors represent the epitome of truth, strong moral character, and integrity...right?

15. Yup. He made so many contradictory statements, it was ridiculous.
He first said he did not know McCain WASN'T in the "cone of silence," saying 10 min. before the show, he just "figured" he'd be there by the start of the show. Then he said RIGHT before the show, he gave Obama a "heads up" on a question that he was going to ask about, but he couldn't do the same for McCain since he wasn't there RIGHT BEFORE. THEN he said McCain was with the secret service who said they wouldn't ALLOW McCain to cheat, :eyes: and THEN he said he went into a room with a disconnected circuit feed.

the eyes of fundie-nuts who had ruled out voting in 2008.

McCain's performance gave them the spark they needed to get on board.

It was a trap for Obama.
