New LA Times/Bloomberg National Poll LoomsTuesday, August 19th, 2008

Their latest batch of head-to-head match-ups will be released at 5 pm ET Tuesday.

Could it mean bad news for Obama?

Top of the Ticket teases: The numbers “will not alter the perception” Obama is underperforming nationally, will show McCain that it’s the domestic issues that matter.

Also says there’s a series of questions “gauging voter attitudes” about candidate attributes.

New L.A. Times/Bloomberg presidential poll has some surprises later today
Which White House contender had the better summer?

A new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll of registered voters across the country leaves little doubt about the answer.

We can't reveal the precise figures yet; for that, check back at LATimes.com about 2 p.m. PDT (5 p.m. EDT). Suffice to say that the results will not alter the perception that -- given a seemingly sunny political climate for Democrats -- Barack Obama is under-performing nationally.

Also, a series of questions gauging voter attitudes about candidate attributes makes clear which perceptions Obama needs to shore up between now and election day.

For John McCain, the poll underscores that the more voters focus on domestic issues, the greater the challenge to his hopes of winning the presidency.

And he and his aides might be a bit surprised by the findings when voters are asked whether they view Obama as "too arrogant and presumptuous" and whether McCain could be considered "too hot-tempered."

1. This poll will be meaningless the minute it's released because of the VP selection and convention
next week.

7. Well of course if the last one had him up by 12 and this one is only by 5 or so then
they will make it a big deal.

9. The last LAT/Bloomberg poll oversampled Dems. I hope they won't pull a Newsweek-style switch and
oversample Rethugs this time. At least the daily tracking polls try to be a bit more consistent in the Democrat-Republican-independent ratios.

3. Sounds like good news, actually
Reading between the lines it sounds like Obama will be close/tied, as opposed to trailing, and that McCain isn't gettin traction on the "too arrogant and presumptuous" thing.
