McCain's Own Defense Against Cross-Gate Has Exposed His Lie.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 02:49 PM by berni_mccoy
As we've just learned from TPM, http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/08/solzhenitsyn_biographer_crossi.php,

Solzhenitsyn *never* wrote the passage about the fellow POW scribing the cross in the sand. However, it's told that Solzhenitsyn recalled this story in front of an evangelical group.

But we know from McCain's own writing in the 1973 NY Sun that he's a 'scholar' of Solzhenitsyn's.

So, it's odd that in their first defense against this that they try to highlight the differences between Solzhenitsyn's story and their own.

But if Solzhenitsyn didn't write it, then McCain would have known that and could have easily refuted this. But they didn't, which means that McCain either THOUGHT Solzhenitsyn wrote it or they stole the story from others who believed it was Solzhenitsyn's.

WOOPS! The Liar Catches Himself With His Own Rope.

Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954)
The story picks up at the point where "The Robe" ends, following the martyrdom of Diana and Marcellus. Christ's robe is conveyed to Peter for safe-keeping, but the emperor Caligula wants it back to benefit from its powers. Marcellus' former slave Demetrius seeks to prevent this, and catches the eye of Messalina, wife to Caligula's uncle Claudius. Messalina tempts Demetrius, he winds up fighting in the arena, and wavers in his faith.

2. Yep, I've seen that. He could very well have gotten it from that.
But the point is, McCain exposed himself in his defense.
