Holy Shit. You Will Not Believe This. Seriously, Toby Keith for Obama?
http://perezhilton.com/2008-08-19-toby-keith

A country artist openly proclaiming that he's a Democrat and supporting Barack Obama!

Unheard of!!!

Toby Keith is currently promoting his new movie, Beer For My Horses, and was asked about his position in the upcoming elections.

Keith responded with, "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up."

He added, "So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things."

And there's more.

Keith continues, "So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat."

WTF? Have I truly lost my mind?

2. I know Tobey said he voted for Bill twice, but didn't know he's supporting Obama.
BTW, Willie Nelson is performing at the convention.

5. Huh? Isn't this the "boot in their ass" guy?
Maybe I'm confused, but isn't this the guy who sang the song about putting a boot in the ass of "our enemies" and called it "the American way?"

Nah, must not be. Oh well, I don't suppose I care enough to actually find out, lol.

7. Bet his visits to Colbert were a clue
I think Stephen spotted a renegade repuke and booked him many times -- did the Colbert Conversion over the last year or so.

9. No. But Hey, even a broke clock eventually gets it right.
Still I think it's the sign of a fading country star who's linked to a 'failed' president and movement (i.e. neocon rah, rah US movement) trying to link himself to another star and group to save it. While trying to disquise it as something else. Sheesh.

13. Also I'm hearing that country itself wants to lean more democraitic now.
Many don't like the fact they are percieved as heavy repug (and democrait unfriendy) by many.

16. He calls himself a "Conservative Democrat".
But he also promoted and voted for Bush's re-election in 2004. Then he put his two cents in where it was not needed regarding the smear campaign against the Dixie Chicks. That was when I ran my truck tire over my Toby Keith CD and never looked back.

10. Hey, there's quite a few left-leaning country artists
Though I never thought that Toby Keith was one.

What? You thought Willie Nelson and the Dixie Chicks were Repukes?

19. Hell now. Yes they are left leaning country artists (Rodney Crowe and Mary Chapin Carpenter anyone)
But they are heavly overshadowed by the right wing ones. Something I hear country music want's to change.

28. Kinda assumed Garth Brooks was a Dem
"We Shall Be Free" doesn't sound GOP to me...

This ain't comin from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand

When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When theres shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
cause we shall be free

When were free to love anyone we choose
When this worlds big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
cause we shall be free

And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When theres only one race and thats mankind
Then we shall be free

he said NOTHING. "I thought it was beautiful," "he came back and said some nice things..." Blah blah blah.

21. But he made a movie that is based on a song about lynching??
Beer for My Horses Lyrics
Artist(Band):Toby Keith

Well a man come on the 6 o'clock news
said somebody's been shot
somebody's been abused
somebody blew up a building
somebody stole a car
somebody got away
somebody didn't get to far yeah
they didn't get to far

Grand pappy told my pappy back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he'd done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street
For all the people to see

That
Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
And we'll all meet back at the local saloon
And we'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing
whiskey for my man, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
too much corruption and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down
You can bet he'll set 'em down

Cause
Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
And we'll all meet back at the local saloon
And we'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing
whiskey for my man, beer for my horses
whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

He knew
Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys,
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
And we'll all meet back at the local saloon
And we'll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singin' whiskey for my man, beer for my horses
Singing whiskey for my man, beer for my horses

24. My sister sat behind him at the Big 12 Tournament a couple years ago
She said he was loud, obnoxious and very drunk. He spilled his beer into a woman's purse and ruined her camera and cell phone. The lady had to go get security to calm Toby down. My sister said if it had been anyone but a famous country musician, they would have made him leave. She still tells the story every time his name comes up and says he completely ruined the tournament for everyone sitting close to him.

That confirms it. Confusion aborted, thanks to P2BL and DU for the intervention. I'm so very tired, people.

27. I'm in the music business in Nashville-trust me
Toby is just trying to broaden his audience- he'll vote for McCain. He's only worried about selling records. He'd promote any ideology if he could sell 2 miilion records doing it. It's all about the money.
