Poll question: Would Obama campaign do that text message stunt for a lackluster VP choice? |
|
I signed up for that text message of Obama's VP choice and it just occurred to me that's a lame idea if he really is going to pick one of his supposed top three.
If it's Joe Biden, no one outside of DC will be impressed, and at best, everyone else will be relatively unoffended.
Tim Kaine and Evan Bayh are unknown outside of their own regions--though Bayh would cause some rejoicing on K Street since he is from the corporate compliant DLC.
So why make a big production over a choice that will at best inspire an ''oh, okay,'' from most people?
Does Obama have a surprise in mind?

1. They did that thing to get your address. Do you think that they care |
|
about your opinion of the choice?

They wanted our cell phone #s so they can text us to go vote!
I bet they want a return text after we have voted so they know who has gone and who needs to be followed up on. If so, that would be very smart indeed.

9. Yes... even though he'll probably never campaign any where |
|
around me.
And, the only one of these VP choices who might do it is Kaine - but even he had Clark come and shore him up in rural Virginia, so he might be scared of East Tennessee, himself.

6. Seriously, Obama campaign's silence is both daunting in how impossible it is to avoid leaks |
|
and exciting in the possibilities behind the VP.
Although to be fair, maybe this is because of my personal bias and hope that the Obama campaign didn't really ignore Clark...

10. Clark is on my short list of choices that would make a difference. Obama's choice short list looks |
|
like Pres for the people, VP for corporations (at least Biden & Bayh).

15. Biden & Bayh voted for the Iraq War and are pretty corporate compliant. Bayh is DLC |
|
that literally grovels before big business and kicks labor and tries to shed traditional constituencies like unions and minorities.

I want to win. I want a VP nominee that will help Obama win. That's my sole standard. I don't give a damn if they have votes that are not to my pleasing. Anyone who can help as VP will have those.

13. I don't even care. The entire text thing creates a ton of excitement |
|
especially amongst the younger text crazed crowd.
I might be really happy about his pick but just as easily be  and we all have to deal with it one way or the other.
Frankly, I think it's a cool way to create excitement and it also causes the M$M to need more frequent diaper changes.

The Obama campaign is making good use of technology while the McCain camp is still trying to figure out how to use the computer :-).

I don't think it tells us anything about how "exciting" the choice is.

This is the first campaign of the 21st century. It works in so many ways. First its using "sexy" technology. Second it end runs the press and speaks directly to the people. Third it helps build a network for virtually free communications. This could be a stunning way to minimize the power of the MSM. I wonder just exactly how many text and email addresses the Obama campaign now has in its database?
Damn Clever!
