We ARE Going To Win North Carolina... I GIVE YOU MY WORD
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 03:36 PM by musicblind
I am from NC, and I can tell you that North Carolina is going to go blue.

I shit you not.

I know some people hate me here because I stand up for the Clintons and have supported her as a VP choice. I always call it like it is, and do not over hype things. Therefore I hope it holds more weight when I tell you that we ARE, beyond a shadow of a doubt, absolutely, positively, double pinkie swear... GOING TO WIN NORTH CAROLINA.

This state has an active African American population. We have Duke University, Carolina, UNCG, UNCW, ECU, NC STATE, Wake Forrest, Appalachian State, UNCC, and many many more colleges and universities. Everything from Greensboro College, to High Point University, to Elon, and so on. We have a BUTT LOAD of colleges and universities here.

We also have people who have been hit HARD by the economy and we have a growing hispanic population.

I don't see why people aren't more excited about this state. Polls now have Obama WITHIN TWO POINTS OF TAKING MCCAIN IN NC and have Dole's senate race TIED with the democrat.

I'm glad we're excited about VA and I think we have a shot at getting that state as well. Though NC has even more electoral votes than does VA and we WILL get NC this election cycle!

As a citizen of this state I would like to point out that I have seen TONS of Obama signs, Obama bumper stickers, and only ONE McCain bumper sticker. Which is amazing since I live in one of the most conservative places in the state. I live in a place where alcohol was illegal up until a recent vote held on July 29th.

So let me assure you one thing. Obama will win NC.

2. I've heard this sort of thing for 30 years
even as you all kept sending Jesse Helms back to Washington.

North Carolina would require a 13% point swing from 2004. Not going to happen in national politics in the state.

4. Look at the polls. Things are different this time around
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 03:56 PM by musicblind
I NEVER said or indicated to anyone that Kerry had a prayer here in 2004. This is DIFFERENT. Things are different.

Also, keep in mind we have a 22% black population which is higher by 2 percentage points than VA's 20% black population. AND we have a slightly higher percentage (just slightly) of the hispanic population than does VA.

7. Like I said- I've heard this for 30 years
Don't get me wrong- every effort you make in NC is WAY cool. Just don't be shouting about things you can't deliver.

10. Yeah ...
I appreciate that the poster is HIGHLY positive and motivated ... But, if BO wins NC, he will have won by a MASSIVE landslide ... That is NOT happening ...

13. Seems to me being realistic and doing what one can do-

working hard is very positive.

Magical thinking on the other hand, is not.

Politics isn't a musical- it's down and dirty, dealing with the facts as they are, not as we wish they would be.

16. I do not think this election will be a landslide but I do think he will in NC
that is the difference. I am a VERY skeptical person on here who has criticised and supported another candidate in the primary. I am NOT one of those people who thinks the Zogby poll is BS just because I don't agree with it. I roll my eyes at those people.

However, from the hard evidence I see around here... it looks like he will be winning NC.

I personally think he has a better chance at NC than he does VA.

It is sorely needed around here! I am sick to death of the handwringing, nervous Nellies everywhere I turn. Democrats really are pathetic in that respect (and I say that as a diehard Democrat). Everyone has their panties in a twist over some shitty Zobgy poll that Pollster has pretty-much discredited, and which, BTW, was taken while Obama was on vacation.

Just like Hillary, McCain has been throwing the kitchen sink at Obama and the old fucker still can't get above the mid-40s. That crappy poll says about more about John W. Bush than Obama. He is running Hillary's campaign, and he's not doing any better than she did.

We don't have a VP yet, we haven't had our convention and it's still August for God's sake.

The Democrats can be such crybabies I think they doom our candidates with their pesimisism and gloom-and-doom scenarios which only emboldens the Republicans and depresses Democrats, so to all of you panty-twisted handwringers . . . SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Sorry for the diatribe Musicblind, I got on a tear. Again, thanks for your great, uplifting post! :toast:

12. Agree!
I live in Durham.

Don't forget about the Historically Black Colleges here: Fayetteville State, NC A &T, NC Central, Bennet College, Shaw U. etc..

Not only is the African American population large, but they are motivated and will get out to vote this time.

Obama will dominate the Triangle & Triad Areas. Sandhills is kind of iffy, but perhaps Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg is hopeful.

I feel like a fool. I was just typing very quickly.

You are right though, and the motivation here is crazy.

I've seen people at the gay clubs working their butts off to promote promote promote with flyers.

14. a voice of reason :-)
thanks for your post. I also support the Clintons, and have found out what that costs around here. My fav for VP is Clark, but I trust Obama to pick the best VP and will support his decision 100%. I think it is a shame to have so much divisiveness within our own party and people making politics so personal, when the politician themselves understand what's going on.

I am 100% for Obama and so glad to have a candidate I can support so wholeheartedly. That doesn't take away from the work Bill C did as president and the work he still does around the world. HC has also contributed tremendous things to our party. We should be proud of the icon Bill is, and instead we play right into the bs and give him up lock stock and barrel. It's ironic in a party known for its compassion that we can't show some good judgment in regards to the Clintons and what HC represents for many women. Women have faced a lot of backwards movement in the past 8 years, along with other minority groups, and we all hope so hard to finally have a voice. That should be easy enough to understand for a liberal.

I'm sure I'll be flamed horribly for having the bad judgment to say something positive about the Clintons for the second time in two days. Flame away, but know that our own candidate would not and does not condone this kind of petty bs. We should be above it. It's an opportunity to show how our brains see the manipulation and rise above it -- and yet, too often, we buy right into the msm feeding frenzy and eat our own.

I am interested in using all of the people we have as a party to come together and win this damn election, in which we have so much at stake for the WORLD. Yea, North Carolina! I love Chapel Hill and Charlotte! (have family from there)

Thanks again for your positive post.

18. You are exactly right
but do not be ashamed to say positive things about Clinton. Keep speaking out like you do now. I do not let a single person on these boards intimidate me or sway my point of view if I know that it is correct and backed up by rational evidince.

And yes, I do believe with all my heart that NC is going blue this year.

20. I'm in WNC. We did canvassing over the weekend and
we would go to houses where I would think No Way and they would turn out to be Obama supporters. Lots of Obama bumper stickers and very few McCain. I'm feeling pretty postive also. People are hurting here a lot more than they were four years ago. Abortion and gay issues don't seem to be quite so important when you don't have any money.

21. Maybe... but you might want to check with
Premier Election Solutions (aka Diebold) on that one...

Or maybe that's just a crazy conspiracy theory. In all honesty, I don't know. But cheats or no cheats, winning anything in the South is going to be an uphill battle.

Hope you're right, though. :)
