McCain's answer to adultery and abandonment of 1st wife..."that was 30 years ago" ....
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/CNN_special_investigates_McCains_greatest_moral_0820.html

He applied for a marriage license to Cindy before he was divorced from wife #1.

And he engaged in a series of affairs cheating on wife #1 before meeting Cindy who was 17 years younger than he was(of course he admitted he lied about his age, with a chuckle)

But he is the 'family values' candidate. Right! LOL

3. Skip 30
Go directly to 40 years ago. The strong suit of the conservative mind is to be able to discern the important facts, throw them aside and hone in on form over substance.

6. Well he was a POW MORE than 30 years ago
so I guess by that logic, he doesn't get to use that halo.

If he still has the same moral compass that he did 30 years ago, then it doesn't even matter how much time has passed--he's still an asshole.

7. Beware, John, some folks have long memories. . .like Ross Perot. . .
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/mccain-the-cad-a-study-in_b_106286.html

(snip)
...Ross Perot, who paid (Carol McCain's) medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel -- even by the standards of modern politics.

"McCain is the classic opportunist. He's always reaching for attention and glory," he said.

"After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.."
(snip)

8. Ross Perot
is kind of a crazy dude, but this I'll say for him: extremely devoted to his wife, kids and grandkids. Doesn't tolerate any "hanky-panky." LOL.

10. Well, 30 years WAS a long time ago
He wasn't even in politics then.

And even if he were, there wouldn't be any reporting of his "affair" because the press didn't report on those kind of things. Not until Gary Hart did the media make a big deal about private indiscretions and it's been getting worse since.

Sure, he was a bastard. He cheated on his wife several times and didn't stand by her after she was incapacitated by the car accident and finally abandoned her. He loses big-time in the "moral family values" role.

But in my opinion, it's far too late to be making political hay about this. The proper time to do it would have been when he ran for office the first time.

I can't fault him for this alone as a reason to be excluded from the presidency. After all, didn't he serve as a Senator for two decades without this being a problem?

And as for the "if he can't stay loyal to his wife, how can we trust HIM" factor, I call bullshit.

JFK would have put all philandering politicians to shame. His "conquests" were legendary. Teddy Kennedy as well. And as for Clinton... well....we all know the story.

But they ALL fought like hell for what they believed in and remained true to their constituents - the only ones that should matter to the public.

And it's all they're being hired for.

I know this won't be a popular opinion here, but there it is.

12. She was young and he sold her a great line.
Cindy said that McCain wanted a good wife and mother and that's what he saw in her. No wonder she thought creeping with a man behind his wife's back was justifiable.

18. What is it w/the RW? McCain dumps his first wife, the one who waited
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 11:05 PM by rasputin1952
for him, all those years; then hops into literally a bag of cash. Gingrich gives his wife divorce papers while she is recovering from cancer surgery; a host of other stories have been in the news, and yet they are the party of "Morality" and "Family ca;ues"...:wtf:

I don't care if it was 30 years ago, he hasn't exactly changed all that much, he's still a self-centered egotistical jughead that will do anything to glorify himself while failing to mention those that have helped him in the past. Goldwater, who initially backed him for his Senate seat, soon realized that McCain was nothing like he portrayed himself...Goldwater actually called him an "asshole" w/in a year of his being elected. He thought he had been duped, and regretted ever backing McCain.
