Because of the hurt feelings of Clinton supporters......
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 04:01 PM by RMP2008
Many of whom are women, there is no way in my unimportant opinion of course, that Senator Obama can choose a pro-life running mate like Chuck Hagel. I think he'd electrify the media, sway a few independents and republicans but would not help with soldifying the base of Clinton supporters who make up something like 25% of undecided according to the NBC/WSJ and CBS/NYT polls. Now imagine if Mcsame picks a pro-choice running mate against Obama's pro-life? Not good.

In an ordinary year with the democratic base soldified, Hagel would be perfect. Not this year though.

Obama's comment about someone independent got me thinking about Hagel but he just wouldn't work.

2. Are you suggesting Clinton supporters are stupid?
You're saying they'd rather support an anti-choice president, over a pro-choice president?

Why are you so disrespectful to Clinton supporters?

The primaries are over.

Have a blessed day.

21. Because lots of people know the primaries are over.
Some people are still figuring it out.

Have a blessed day.

4. I think Hagel would be bad in ANY year -- he isn't a Democrat
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 04:05 PM by LostinVA
A Dem should be the Democratic Party's VP. Period.

And, Dems shouldn't EVER want an anti-choice VP.

10. Hagel delivers instant massive foreign policy cred to this ticket
Something that we're viewed as lacking. He instantly takes away any of the questions about Senator Obama's experience that voters may have. Plus, he has opposed the war in Iraq for years and could take Mccain on the issue. Unfortunately, the base would likely revolt.

6. How about not choosing a Republican, period?
But, of course, continuing trashing Hillary and her supporters is a blood sport here.

I often wondered whether you guys even want to win, preferring, instead, to lose and to continue trashing Hillary and her supporter for four more years and beyond.

Here is a suggestion: go out and take a deep breath of fresh air.

7. Or Jim Webb.
In another year he might have been able to apologize for the idiotic, sexist things he said in the past and argue that he has grown since then. Not this year.

They generally have no regard for life at all. They're just full of shit windbags.

12. Selecting a pro-choice VP has nothing to do with clinton.
The majority of the party, and the country, is pro-choice.

He'd be a fool to select an anti-choicer.

15. We need someone that can tear down Mccain's national security advantage
as VP. If not Hagel, I'm open to ideas as to who. Someone that can stop the scared masses sucrrying to Mccain each time even the slightest hint of a foreign policy issue arises in the media.

16. OK-tell me who could be VP that would tear down Mccain's only real advantage
I have no love for Hagel at all but I see his value. BTW, I don't think he'd be picked for a multitude of reasons.

running mate?

Have you met many Democrats?

19. No I said that he can't choose a republican
because the base isn't soldified. If the base was solidifed, we'd be able to make a play for the independents that we need.

A republican on a Democratic ticket would make me stay home, or vote McKinney. Thank God it's never gonna happen.
