Classmate (USNA) of Swift-Liar speaks out (retired admiral). Good friend.
This is a response to an email of mine to him, about another subject, where I probed his views on the Swift-Liars. This retired admiral flew Lockheed P-3 Orions from NAF Cam Rahn Bay where I was flying Army Lockheed P-2 Neptunes. He knew that my unit, the Crazy Cats, had been going deep into Laos and Cambodia since 1966. This admiral once posted a response to a critic of mine on another board that he would "be honored to carry Mac T____'s helmet bag anywhere, anytime."

The admiral's email:

Yep, and the worst insult is that the leader of the pack is one of my classmates from canoe U....John O'Neill.....the shame, the shame.

It's hard to get medals when you don't officially exist. Laos!!! We don't do no stinkin' Laos!!

What a great guy. He absolute skunks his US Naval Academy (Canoe U) classmate John O'Neill! My response to the good admiral:

Re: O'Neill. You have always been high in that constellation of those whom I admire. Tonight you are the alpha-star, Sirius.

DU friends, it doesn't get any better than this. The worm has turned.

Mac

PS: Again, the Laos comment is in there because he realized that most of my units missions were in Laos, with a few in Cambodia. That all started in 1966.

5. I can't identify him
He now has a high level job in the FAA. He was an airline pilot with me for 20 years. Retired early, as did I.

8. I also enjoy your posts and I too, didn't realize
you were a vet. My dad was a WWII vet, as is my mother (Army nurse in the south pacific). I've always had the utmost respect for all vets. So sad Vietnam is still being fought through political voices after all these years. I heard my dad--and mom--tell a few stories of WWII, but it wasn't something they wanted to discuss much. My mother, now 84, really likes Kerry and the wisdom she brings to the subject of how politics weaves a wicked web sometimes blows me away.

11. Whoa, Jeff--
May I call to your attention that after several years of research, NOT ONE instance of any returning VN vet being spat upon has ever been documented. Most agree it was an urban legend. My own theory is that it probably started with the beginning of the personal attack slander by Spiro Agnew, Nixon's veep. The Tricky Dick Dirty Tricks Ensemble were capable of that kind of crap. They came up with the fear-gate stuff about acid causing birth defects--same s___.

17. Returning VietNam vets spat upon -- Urban Legend -- link

-snip-

Several historians have found other inaccuracies - or at least overstatements - about Vietnam. One is the notion that Vietnam soldiers were routinely spit upon when returning from the war.

Though the spitting stories have been widely told, they are likely nothing more than urban myth, says Jerry Lembcke, a Vietnam veteran and sociology professor at Holy Cross College, who recently wrote a book about the subject.

In that book, "The Spitting Image: Myth, Memory and Vietnam," he writes that he couldn't document a single case of a US servicemember being spit on.

"I actually thought I'd find some factual basis for this. But I have still not found a single piece of compelling evidence that it ever happened," Mr. Lembcke says.

7. Lookit. Admiral X is fairly conservative.
He has seen the light. He hates Bu$h. He hates what the Swift-Liars are doing. He hates his former classmate at USNA, John O'Neill. All from the horses' mouth.

14. You are right DemoTex - the admiral's disgust is very important.
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 09:45 PM by merh
I don't think he is alone in his disgust and I think the repugs need to worry about the protests of their delegates at the RNC more so than the folks in the streets of NYC. Real GOPers and not the neo-cons are very disheartened and disenchanted by *&co. and their crimes. As divided as our nation is, so too is their party.

How would you feel as a delegate to stand beneath your candidate comfortably wrapped in his blast and bullet proof bubble pontificating to all that will listen the he has made things safer?

The admiral is not alone, though I am sure he feels as if he is if he is a member of the GOP. Please thank him for his service and tell him to not lose the hope. We will take back our country from this evil.

Thank you for the post and your service! :hi:

19. A somewhat related question for you, DemoTex...
Are you familiar with the Geneva Conventions? I'm not but I wonder how free-fire zones were not war crimes almost by definition.
