Poland says bye
Poland wants to pull out of Iraq as soon as possible, Defence Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski said upon arriving at a Polish military base in southern Iraq, the PAP news agency reported.

19. I was kidding

Tonga is listed in the "coalition of the willing" but, in fact,
has no army. It is unclear as to what, if anything, they contribute
to the effort in Iraq.

But I agree, the people ARE big.

22. Oh, last month (or earlier in August) Tonga announced they were sending
like 16 people, or 38 or 60----I remember commenting on it here on DU.

3. Pull out ? Doesn't sound manly to me
In any case, other than Great Britain, who cares ? Only Russia, China, and perhaps France have a military worthy of note. Fair to say that those countries are at best neutral re: us.

Bottom line is that with the exception of GB, in any likely military venture we form, we will be the real deal. Other than GB, the rest is window dressing. True, some countries provide small, but effective support, e.g. the Aussies with their ASAS, the Poles with their Grom.

Nice, but in the broad scope not critical.

8. Will be intersting to see
Will the Labour party devour their most successful leader in 30 years. sort of like if the Democrats had decided to impeach Pres. Clinton. My bet is that it will go nowhere.

Even Labourites who don't like Mr. Blair's centrist policies will be loathe to tear the party apart in an impeachment hearing. They would be forming a circular firing squad and the last man standing would be the Tory leader.

We don't want that. Then again, we don't want bLiar. Any chance for Brown? Or will he put the country to sleep?

I lived 12 years in London btw. Forced transfer to Texas 3 years ago.

I miss London fierce. :( Have a sausage roll and HP for me? And hubby asks for a pint of Old Rose and Lancashire hotpot?

17. They should impeach and remove him
They can find someone else to lead the party before he destroys it. When the republicans signed onto the impeachment of Nixon he was done for. Blair led England into and illegal unjust war. I hope they fry his ass, it can only be bad for Chimpy and Blair deserves it for enabling our pretzel drunk stooge of a president.
Thousands of coalition troops are dead and wounded. Tens of thousands of Iraqi people are dead or wounded. To quote Death of a Salesman "attention must be paid". Congratulations to the labor party of England if they have the character to do it.

21. That means nothing.
There's always a couple of backbenchers who can't stand their leader. Nothing will come of it.

24. Bush thought it critically important from a propaganda POV ...
... in March, when Poland first announced that it intended to withdraw, and applied enough pressure to get a reversal.

And at 6000 troops made up of 100 from here and 20 from there, Poland is commanding the largest contingent after our 160,000.

7. You sure ?
Unless they have drastically pulled back Great Britain would have by far the second largest contingent in Iraq.

You can, and you did ;) re: your question that is.

What's the buzz about Mark? That was quite the shock...WTF was he doing involved in that coup???! When it happened the news here said something like it was a bunch of thugs or drug runners or the like.

16. It's past time
that we withdrew from central Iraq. If we are going to stay over there, we ought to withdraw to Kurdistan, where we are actually still liked (imagine that!) and let the interim government fend for itself.
